So the Facebook poster who claimed Ambrosie was going to be replaced by Todd Smith turned out to be wrong. Chronicling Argo comings and goings on a social media platform (which he does a fine job of, for the record) is somewhat different than working sources to uncover news before it is made public.
Indeed.

That rumour never made any sense.

And yet it sparked a lot of responses online and even in podcasts. The willingness of people to accept "scoops" from almost any source as legitimate and worthy of commenting on -- even amplifying -- is one of the reasons democracy is under severe threat. I hope the two individuals in the Argo fan Facebook group who claimed to have received a "phone call" advising them about Smith replacing Ambrosie are doing some serious reflection.

He acknowledges that he isn’t accredited. So he started a rumour, not a big deal. That’s 90% of social media for you. I personally am glad he was wrong. I don’t like Ambrosie, but I don’t want a freeloading politician in charge of the league.

He has also tried to position himself as a legitimate source of info about the Argos, and has complained, more than once, about not being accredited by the club. After this episode, I reckon that ship has sailed away permanently.

If one who is accredited spreads a rumour, is it as detrimental to democracy? I've heard some rumours from accredited individuals. They advised the Argos will lose fans if Chad Kelly is allowed to return.

It looks like that claim is false. Are those accredited individuals working against democracy?

I just don’t take anything he says seriously. When he failed to get accredited he had an episode against Ben Grant on his page. I told him he was being ridiculous. I just wouldn’t worry about anything he says on his page.
