Re: Game Thread: Toronto Argonauts @ Edmonton Elks
May have been a nothing game for the Argos, but I don't like that they let the Elks back into it in the 4th with a multi-TD lead. It almost cost them against Ottawa and did cost then against Edmonton.
Re: Game Thread: Toronto Argonauts @ Edmonton Elks
If they were playing their starters and not playing vanilla on defence, the Argos would have won going away. Having said that, poor 4th quarters defensively the past two weeks will give this defence a tonne of motivation to be better next week.

Edmonton's starters needed OT to beat the Argos backups. Nothing to be concerned about.

Mark Milton didn’t look very good IMO. Got beat a couple times based on my memoryshatto wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 10:44 am Based on this one game here are some highly personal observations:
. With so many starters not playing the team still did well
. The Dukes experiment should now be over
. Arbuckle, behind a make shift OL and missing Carey and 2 top WRs in second half played very well. He should be the backup QB
. Polk makes a claim to be considered in the Rookie of the Year award
. Some back up players made a strong case for next year (Herslow) and others didn't
. The secondary still looks like a job in progress
. Good to see Mital getting a chance to show his talent
Re: Game Thread: Toronto Argonauts @ Edmonton Elks
100%.
Argos need to re-sign Arbuckle. IMO, the perfect back up. Time to find a new QB to groom for the future. Dukes is a good kid, but not a CFL level QB. If you can’t throw down field, you are in the wrong league,
Re: Game Thread: Toronto Argonauts @ Edmonton Elks
Milton was playing on the other side of the field from what he's accustomed to last night. On the last Edmonton TD, he tripped over his teammate's leg. He did save 4 points in the third quarter when he impressively tracked down Leake after his 88 yard run.ArgoGabe22 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 3:18 pmMark Milton didn’t look very good IMO. Another note about last night - the Argos left a lot of points on the field in the first half. Hajrullahu missed a 40 yard FG on their first possession, and Nield fumbled in Edmonton territory and there was an interception deep in Elks territory as they were driving towards the end of the 2nd quarter. That interception was a result of two receivers being in the same vicinity. That game could and should have been lopsided at halftime.

What did Dukes do that was so bad?
Arbuckle has looked good passing in CFL past before - for the odd game or streak; but then reverts to terrible & dumb, especially in games that matter; he was playing against a porous, over-rated Chris Jones hand-picked secondary that have been gouged all season.
Neither of Arbuckle or Dukes is inspiring as a bona fide CFL #2 IMO, but at least Dukes has superior mobility and is younger with room to learn & improve. A smart GM might go out and sign several young QBs for TC, and then maybe neither of Arbuckle or Dukes even make the roster.
If Arbuckle had to start against the RedBlacks and Dru Brown at QB in the East Semi, I know which team I'd be betting on, sadly.

Who was talking about Arbuckle starting? I said he’s the perfect back up, not starter. Smart, team player who can give you the odd good start. Sounds like a perfect back up in today’s world of football.OV Argo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 4:15 pm What did Dukes do that was so bad?

I didn't say Arbuckle should be starting, just IF; all this dumping on Dukes in favor of trumpeting a proven average and at times really weak Arbuckle - cause he completed some passes in some appearances = I don't get it. Look at the entire body of CFL work including starts in games that mean something - like when he was the RedBlacks starter for most of a season.AngeloV wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 10:17 pmWho was talking about Arbuckle starting? Re: Game Thread: Toronto Argonauts @ Edmonton Elks
Looking at his entire body of work, he seems to do at least okay in Dinwiddie's offence while he struggled mightily on atrocious Edmonton and Ottawa teams.OV Argo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2024 10:31 pmI didn't say Arbuckle should be starting, just IF; all this dumping on Dukes in favor of trumpeting a proven average and at times really weak Arbuckle - cause he completed some passes in some appearances = I don't get it.
