What a fantastic day for football. I get the worry about the Argos D yesterday, but you have to give Tommy Condell a ton of credit. He called great game. Thankfully the Argos D was good in the red zone in the first half, or we may have a different tone today.
Dru Brown was good, but we need to slow down on his all out praise. You throw the ball 61 times, you should get over 450 yards. His yards per attempt was only 7.8 which is pretty average.
Argos only gave up 9 meaningful points in the 2nd half. So they did their job.
Chad Kelly proved he is the best QB in the league and it isn’t close. Who averages 18 yards per attempt? Took 2 vicious hits in the pocket and wasn’t fazed. Razor sharp all day.
Nice to see Mital get more work. I might sound like a broken record here, but more of him please. An absolute beast.
Can’t wait for next week’s game in Montreal. Hoping to turn the tables on them.
And in closing? Hey Adarius Pickett? Where are those ghosts now? Only an idiot chirps about a September victory

Solid game; did not drop any and fought for extra yardage.

Veteran Tommy Nield had 5 catches for 64 yards in the last game of the season, and has 63 receptions in his Argo career; but I could see why they would want to sit him for a raw rookie.
Nield struggled at times this year. Had difficulty making contested catches and his fumble last week didn’t help his chances. Bottom line, Nield does not play short side WR. The only way he gets in yesterday is if they move Daniels to X and play Nield at #2 slot. Clearly they made the right decision.

Brissett - a natural WR (played there in US college ball), and the fastest Argo receiver, could have easily played either side WR; and Nield would have been an extra slotback who played some in the receiver rotation. A raw rookie gets in because they see something in him obviously; and obviously as well the coaches are inscrutable experts who are always right.

It's silly, I realize, to ever question any roster moves the team you like and follow would ever make. It was very wrong of me to ask, earlier this season, why a veteran, fast, play-making defender like Tunde Adeleke was not getting any playing time on defence. Or to ask why Oakman was let go; or McFadden; or young Canadian DT talent like Dionte Knight or Justin Sambu.

Maybe for the East Final, the Argos could air-lift in a new American RB (an NFL cut with an impressive resume) and dress him over Adeboboye, for better RB depth for the big game ?

Dru Brown attempted 61 passes and was sacked all of 2 times (by a highly rated Argo D-line), with a partly patch-work Ottawa O-line.

Chad Kelly attempted 20 passes (behind a highly rated Argo O-line) and was sacked 3 times (including taking a couple of big hits).

Kudos to the Ottawa coaching staff - I guess - for orchestrating that at least.

Were the inscrutable experts, right?

Well Adeboboye only averaged 3.9 YPC compared to McMahon (6.0) and Carey (5.5)

1) of course, they are always right

2) McMahon, with the superior YPC, should clearly be starting at RB next game; with the air-lifted in new American RB at # 2

Argos almost exclusively rushed only four. I saw maybe four or five blitzes among Ottawa's 72 (or whatever the number was) offensive snaps. There obviously must have been a reason for that strategy, but I found it a bit bewildering, although in the end no coaching decision merits a great deal of criticism when you win a playoff game by 20 points (and lead it by 26 late in the fourth quarter). It was good to have so many d-linemen dressed because they all looked gassed at times, given how long the defence was on the field. Every d-lineman other than Hergott got snaps on defence, but four of them (Flo, Smith, Ceresna and Holley) all looked to be on the field far more than half the time.

One of those sacks looked to be a clear miscommunication on the right side between Allen and Vandal. Those things are gonna happen, especially with a rookie who has barely played half a season as a starter. But other than the three sacks, Kelly had time to find the open man (and did so, repeatedly).

All true, but he was razor-sharp nonetheless. Many of his passes were to the precise spot needed for the throw to be completed. He has a bright future in this league.
