Who will be lost from this year's roster?

Post by paulwoods13 »

We'll be better able to speculate when we see the list of prospective free agents, but I'm already worried about three guys: Polk, Mital and Holley. All are signed for next year, but I think all three will get NFL nibbles, at least.

If Austin Mack got a look last season, Polk definitely will IMO.

I'll need to see a list of free agents before I can provide an analysis.

3 Down should have a preliminary list out soon.

Some big names on that list. Priorities IMO are:

Arbuckle (at the right price)
Carey (at the right price)
Coxie
Grant (at the right price)
MacKellar (at the right price)
Brinkman
Ceresna
Smith
McManis
Adekele (at the right price)
Amos
McFadden (at the right price)
Metchie
Haggerty

Losing any of Polk, Mital or Holley would really sting, but it's something we will have to deal with if it happens. IMO Polk would have the best shot of sticking down south, but Mital might make it at least to cut-down day. Holley is a wild card but I could see him lasting through camp if someone signs him.

The top priority, in my mind, is to re-sign McManis and then go from there.

Mack had been on an NFL roster previous to the CFL = big help there.

Polk had good production in US college ball but was written-off / not drafted (maybe sub-par testing results a factor); his big CFL play is next to meaningless to the NFL super-experts. If Polk rates an NFL look all of a sudden after a fine CFL season, there are at least 10 to 15 other CFL receivers who should get one as well then. And receiver is the one position group where IMO a lot of top notch CFL talent could easily make rosters there and be productive. But they won't get the call nowdays; and that's good for the CFL.

Polk may not get a good long look but I think tired will definitely be kicked. Could always be back before the season if the case.

I would make him the highest-paid defender in the league, if not the highest-paid non-QB. He is obviously the heart and soul of this football team.

The exit meetings must have been interesting today, or are they tomorrow? Let's hope they can find a way to keep most. Being on a contender and winning championships in CFL - the playoff money can help make up for the FA money for some. What this team went through last year, this year, hopefully most of these guys want to keep the band together. Chad's going to have plenty of fire in his belly to lead team to a Grey Cup. They can establish a dynasty. Winnipeg have managed to somehow keep their band together.
