Lirim Hajrullahu appreciation thread

Post by Will »

He deserves it!

You could see he was in pain at the Grey Cup and still managed to make all his field goals and converts.

Guts personified as Gorilla Monsoon would say.

Appreciation needs to be given to him not just for the Grey Cup, but the whole season. As a 34 year-old player returning to the CFL after four years in the NFL, he exceeded all expectations.

Very true. He really didn't do much of note down south, so I was a bit worried about that position but he was lights-out all year.

I just recalled that USFL game that you and I attended in Detroit, and that he came over an chatted with us for a moment, little did we know then that he'd be back in the CFL a year later and place-kicking for a Grey Cup winning team.

I was not happy that we lost Boris Bede and his big leg, but, obviously, the Argos brass knew what they were doing as Hajrullahu IMO was the best placekicker in the league this year.

I'm a huge Bede fan, too, but another valuable aspect of having LH as the place-kicker is that it allowed the team to dress four designated INTs who can play non-kicking positions, instead of three. Having all those extra d-linemen was one of the reasons the Argos got to, and won, the Grey Cup.

Lirim has been nothing but money in his two stints in Toronto. Anytime I feel a bit uncertain about whether he is going to deliver, he does. I'm with Ravi and others I'm sure, who think he is the best FG kicker in the league, even above Whyte and Paredes. His Grey Cup performance will cement him among the great Argo kickers over the years.

And yes, while we're at it, John Haggerty is the best punter in the league. I don't care if Jake Julien had a better punt average this season. Consider that Julien was also working with a much longer field than Haggerty on most occasions but didn't show close to Haggerty's consistency in putting the ball within the 20 yard lines.

My wife and I were standing in the lower seats opposite the stage for the presentation. After the ceremony he came along the edge of the grandstand and shook hands with all the Argo fans accumulated there. It was a nice gesture, much appreciated, and I told him he should have been the Outstanding Canadian (BTW Dukes came over as well). It was my wife's first Grey Cup, she said it was the most exciting thing she's ever seen!

Lirim, unsung hero.

One miss along the stretch and a different GC 🏆 result.

Coming out in the 2nd half after that nasty ankle injury and still delivering 100% results.

Epic.

Ask him about playing on that ankle. He’ll crack you up. 😂

I was in the endzone and the seats are higher up there so no way to shake hands, but he did come over. Ungerer was the other player who came over.
