Sounds like Fields is also getting some interviews with other teams.

Sound official now: Monson as new Argo DC; another Stamps connection; hopefully it works out; Stamps' D has been most un-impressive the past couple of years now, but so has their whole team with that goof (credit K. Carey ;o) ) Dickenson in charge.

I don't like this move.

As a side note, I remember hearing from multiple people at the beginning of last season that having two Defensive Coordinators is a bad idea. The Argos sure showed them.

This is very surprising bordering on shocking given how well the Argos defense played down the stretch. I wonder where that leaves Eiben and/or Fields unless the Argos brass knows of some movement of one or both of them.

I don't think it's that surprising at all considering Dinwiddie knows & worked with Monson before with the Stamps; plus Mace - another Stamps connection - was the previous DC for RD. And that neither of Eiben or Fields was given the DC job outright, maybe RD does not have enough faith in either of them; plus maybe one or both of those guys is getting interest from another CFL team and this is known.

Monson could have a whole bunch of guys he has worked with before on the Stamps D to again work with on the Argos D going forward. It might be quite the right time for him to get away from that sinking ship in Calgary and board the best ship in the league. Pull Together !

Just because the Argos made the co-defensive co-ordinators system work this year, doesn't mean it's a great idea or some kind of new direction that other teams would implement. I give full kudos to Eiben and Fields for pulling it off, but I wonder if you asked each of them if they would want that system to continue, what their honest answers would be. I recall reading somewhere that even in-game decisions changed back and forth between them as the game went on. Don't know how something like that is sustainable long-term.

As to Monson getting the nod, his previous connection to RD would no doubt play have played a big part in getting the job.

I don't know enough about the DC's who were let go, (like Mark Washington or Baron Miles)or who might now be available (Ryan Phillips or Mike Benevides) to say which way the Argos should have gone, but I am quite comfortable in trusting RD to make that choice. Argos have done just find under his watch so far.

I gotta believe a two-headed DC would lean towards more conservative play-calling. Fewer disagreements that way, and nobody wants to see the two DCs arguing with each other.

Sure enough it could be argued the Argos D played too safe in 24. Had to be one of the lowest blitzing teams in the league. Give that killer Dline just a little more help and maybe there’s more sacks and more picks.

It’s a little surprising that neither Fields nor Eiben gained enough stature in RD’s eyes to take over, but then again they were both rookie DCs, while Monson’s been through every situation imaginable. I like the move.

It's an interesting move. Hard to judge him the last couple of years with so much talent leaving the Stamps, and a sub par offence which put the D on the field an awful lot.

Scheme vs talent is the ultimate question I'd agree.

Need to how the Stamps D performed in 2019-2023 for example.
