Hergott got next to no real playing time on D to see what he could bring; maybe they are bringing him along slowly playing just STs, or maybe that is just not a good sign. Blackburn did get some real D playing time and flashed some talent - might be the future safety.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 2:20 pmSmith in particular, IMO, as he is a unique talent and there is no one on the roster at the moment who could likely replace him. Hergott has potential but it's too soon to know what he will become. I saw enough from Blackburn this year to believe he might be able to develop into a starting safety. That said, I really hope we keep Metchie.
Agreed that Robbie Smith and Metchie are very good D fixtures and hopefully they stick around - with back-ups behind them who could fill in or play some reps in rotations and packages.
Next CFL draft features, IMO, a lot of D talent, particularly at D-line and safety. Dionte Knight was let go and so was last year's draft pick Justin Sambu (picked up by the Stamps and responded with 4 sacks in limited playing time - likely led the entire league in sacks per D reps played) - so there was no Canadian DT talent at all to possibly play in the rotation; this is a mistake and should be corrected IMO. Both D-line and safety (a guy who might also be able to play reps at S-OLB like Adeleke) can be addressed next draft - do it with early picks (and do not GOB draft there another O-line just because).
