Presumably to play SAM (or elsewhere), a veteran who has been here before.
Muddy Waters and Darius Joiner were released.

Re: Priester signed
Not a big body but he seemed to lay out big hits. Replacement for Mauger I would think.
Re: Priester signed
I am glad that Priester was still available.
Re: Priester signed
Glad to see Priester signed. He impressed with his play previously and though not very big, he always seem to make the tackles. Still unhappy the team did not prioritize re-signing Pickett as he was the best in the league at a key position. Perhaps they felt Adeleke would have been a good replacement and being a Canadian it would have helped with the ratio. Hopefully, he will be available before the 6 games are up. In the meantime who will they play in Mauger's place? I guess neither Joiner or Waters was up to the task. Will Dennis get a chance at playing in the position--they seemed high on him after training camp but time is tight.
Does the signing of Person, indicate Orimolade's injury is more serious than we originally thought? He looks like a promising addition to the team. He falls between a DE and LB for the NFL but might be a good fit for the CFL.

I am sure that the Argos would have liked to have had Pickett back but there was no way that they would have been able to re-sign both him and McManis. Unfortunately with the salary cap, tough decisions have to be made and the Argos had to make a tough one there.shatto wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:01 pm Glad to see Priester signed. Re: Priester signed
Obviously the team had to make some tough decisions but I would still argue the signing of Pickett should have been a priority. Perhaps not re-signing another valuable but overall less impactful player might have been an option. The team's biggest losses were on D. Losing Pickett might have been too much of a loss. Daniels is receiving $172,000 hard money and Pickett $165,000. As much as I like and respect Daniels, with all the other losses on D, I'd suggest Pickett's value to the team would have been greater than Daniels.
The above is only my rather uninformed opinion and there may be other reasons why certain decisions were made. I respect and recognize others will disagree with my thoughts on this issue and they may be right but the loss of Pickett is certainly being felt by the team.

Re: Priester signed
No question Pickett is missed, but paying him as well as McManis, Flo and Ceresna would have tied up a lot of salary on defence, and forced us to go with inexperience elsewhere. It's a difficult balancing act that was inevitable after so many guys had career seasons at lower salaries. If Daniels hadn't been re-signed, who would have played that position? We're not exactly stacked at receiver.
Re: Priester signed
Yeah; Pickett is about the best S-OLB in the league IMO. And a position that's maybe not so easy to find guys who are a real good fit there.shatto wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 1:45 pm Obviously the team had to make some tough decisions but I would still argue the signing of Pickett should have been a priority. I like Daniels too as a quality, vet receiver, but the Argos have lots of receiver talent IMO and spread the ball around anyways, so IMO he would not be as high a priority, as he isn't a main feature "star" receiver guy (like that idiot Jones over-paid for both Lawler & Lewis in consecutive seasons).
And why wasn't Oakman just cut in the off-season? - was he making CFL minimum wage? - why wait till after the first game of the season ??? And Barlow & Hendrix were both good for the Argos D-line, but perhaps quite a bit homer over-rated, and I don't see them exactly dominating on the Pussycats D-line = I would not have paid large to keep them; but Pickett - yes if it was possible.
Still like to see what Adeleke could do at S-OLB (if he gets deployed there, and I'm not sure if it is an American only GOB position for this team); Mauger was adequate at best at safety with the BC defence IMO; but often "experienced" players (i.e. they started for another CFL team) get welcomed on another CFL team to be a starter again.
Re: Priester signed
I don't believe Daniels was a free agent in 2023-2024 though.
