Noticed Haggarty is no longer listed on the roster and CFL.ca transactions has yet another unfamiliar note beside his name which I think means he wasn't offered a contract?

The key word in the transactions list is DEL. It would seem to suggest he is not returning to Toronto and signing elsewhere. Which would be a shame, but there are a lot of Aussie punters out there. I wouldn't break the bank for him any more than we did for Bede last season. Hajrallahu can also punt if necessary.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 7:16 amNoticed Haggarty is no longer listed on the roster and CFL.ca transactions has yet another unfamiliar note beside his name which I think means he wasn't offered a contract?

He isn't on the roster anymore because free agency officially opened yesterday.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 7:16 amNoticed Haggarty is no longer listed on the roster and CFL.ca transactions has yet another unfamiliar note beside his name which I think means he wasn't offered a contract?
I don't think it precludes a return. I wasn't exactly impressed with Edwards in the 2nd pre-season game, though he punted better in the first pre-season game.

One of the forum members feels that the Global PK on the roster (sorry his name escapes me) could be a better Punter than Edwards. Will wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 9:23 amHe isn't on the roster anymore because free agency officially opened yesterday.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 7:16 amNoticed Haggarty is no longer listed on the roster and CFL.ca transactions has yet another unfamiliar note beside his name which I think means he wasn't offered a contract?

Apparently, Ceresna turned down an offer from the Argos of $40,000 more than Elks signed him for. I read somewhere Ceresna's wife is from Edmonton so perhaps that helped in his decision. But there must be a story behind why and how both Smith and Brinkman decided to sign with the Elks. Maybe, money was not the main reason for them leaving. Wonder if we will ever find out the whole story.
Re: 2025 Argos Free Agency Tracker
It should be noted that the counteroffer to Ceresna was made between the 48-hour negotiating window between Sunday and Tuesday. It's possible that Ceresna felt like he was obligated to honor his verbal agreement with the Elks, but we may never actually know.shatto wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 12:58 pm Apparently, Ceresna turned down an offer from the Argos of $40,000 more than Elks signed him for. I've mentioned before that Edm is a great place to live. Traffic, while much heavier than when I lived there, is way less of an issue than in Toronto. The cost of living is considerably lower. No provincial sales tax. Great river valley. Not everyone wants to be that far away from other major cities, and obviously if you are heavily into live music or theatre, there's no comparison to Toronto. The winters are long and cold, but sunny. From a purely financial standpoint, the salaries don't need to be even for Edmonton to come out ahead, and if you are looking for a good place to raise a family, you can do a lot worse than Edm.
Re: 2025 Argos Free Agency Tracker
Paul, you sound like a representative of the Tourist Board for Edmonton but you do make it sound an attractive place to live. I have not been in Edmonton for a few years and that was in the middle of winter. I will be there for my son's wedding this summer so hopefully I'll get a better impression of the city.
Regarding the signing of 3/4 of our DL by one team (Esks), I'd still like to know how that came about and what the Argo administration knew and what they did to try retain at least one of the three players but I expect we will never learn the whole story.

Many factors could go into a player moving on, financial, family considerations, wanting to play with former teammates or coaches or simply wanting a change of scenery.shatto wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 12:58 pm Apparently, Ceresna turned down an offer from the Argos of $40,000 more than Elks signed him for. Maybe Brinkman and Smith enjoyed playing with Ceresna and decided to join forces in Edmonton, who knows and quite frankly who cares at this point.
