Game Thread: Toronto Argonauts at Saskatchewan Roughriders

I see the Roughriders signed American quarterback Eric Barriere. He had an outstanding career at Eastern Washington Univ. He appeared in 51 games throwing for 13,809 yards, 121 touchdowns against 29 interceptions while adding 22 rushing TDs and 1,585 yards along the ground and is their all time leader in many categories.

He spent training camp with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and tried out in the past for the Denver Broncos in 2022 (he was undrafted) and spent time with the USFL’s Michigan Panthers (2022) and the New Jersey Generals (2023).

I am not sure why he previously did not catch on with a team, and he hasn’t been with the Roughriders very long so we likely won’t see him barring injuries.

Barriere had a poor camp with Winnipeg and was simply beat out by another USFL QB Terry Wilson. Not sure what happened in the USFL, maybe established starters played ahead of him?

Expect AJO to be the focal point of the passing attack coming out of the backfield.

The twisting of the leg thing was humour. You obviously don’t know me. Do I like him? No, not at all. But as a former football player, I don’t wish injury upon anyone. I hope you can understand that.

IF the Riders are starting S. Patterson at QB in place of the injured Harris, I thought he looked weak and uncomfortable last game when he got in. The Riders might try to respond with lots of ground game with AJO, but stuff that early and like pretty well all CFL offensive thinkers they will abandon run and go mostly pass. Put heat on Patterson and get sacks and picks; the Riders do have some very good receiver talent though, so the so far weak Argo secondary could get burned further.

And the Argo offence should go plenty of balance & diversity - IMO, please

Despite this game featuring 2 backup QBs, I must say gil doesn't recall a more anticipated game than this one.

I'll take nothing for granted in this game -- recall that in 2022 the Argos played a COVID depleted lineup in Regina and although they won the game, it was a close one that wasn't decided until the final minutes.
