I was pleasantly surprised with that attendance numbers. Given that the Argos felt that they had to go silent on social media heading into the season. Only as the season was near did they promote the game.

It seems to me that the 12,000 number is now kind of a base-line and represents to some degree the number of fans that are committed to the team. The positive for me, is that even with the negative press and attention surrounding the Chad Kelly affair, the team has hung on to its core. That is something to build on.GreyCup1971 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 8:49 am I was pleasantly surprised with that attendance numbers. That's a good way to view this. Given that MLSE has yet decided to push ticket sales we still draw 12,000.
I spoke to Wade Miller in Winnipeg and he was surprised how much effort it took them to sell each 1,000 game day tickets. The CFL doesn't sell itself.
In the past, the blackout policy was a big part of same day ticket sales.

The flip side is the CFL blackout policy cost the league a generation of fans.GreyCup1971 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 12:22 pm That's a good way to view this. Given that MLSE has yet decided to push ticket sales we still draw 12,000.

Argos marketing on Facebook includes pictures of players without their names or position...it boggles the mind how badly they do things. Some people in the city could maybe name Pinball as an Argo and I would imagine that would be it.

I see very little of what I would call marketing of the RedBlacks and CFL football in Ottawa either.
I get the impression that some newbie financial genius types who might have some say in possible advertising and marketing for these CFL teams would be dismissive of or just plain ignorant of some other or old school selling/marketing efforts. Just leave everything to a Bookface post or some other amazing social media stuff and everything will be A-OK ? Or, maybe they just have next to zero marketing budget ?

Constant turnover in this league doesn't help, but it is what it is on that front.
