It’s a big year for DBs in the draft. It’s a position we have a big need for NAT talent. I think it’s a no- brainer we go there at #8. It would be the first DB we selected in the first round since Donnovan Carter in 2000.OV Argo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 5:36 pm
Both all-Canadian safeties Nate Beauchemin & Jackson Findlay put up solid sets of testing #s, but all-star D-Half Eric Cumberbatch (GGs) was faster (3rd fastest 40 there at 4.51) and more athletic overall. All 3 of these guys are 6' plus & 200 plus - big-sized DBs; like to see the Argos able to draft one of them.

Re: Combine time
I agree Findlay, Beauchemin and Cumberbatch would all be excellent choices for the # 8 spot. King Ambers also looks like a good prospect. Being highly subjective, I'd choose Findlay because of his success at the U Sport level and his high football IQ, However I would be happy if they end up signing either of the other two.
On the DL, it would be great if the team could sign Newell or Ojo but it appears highly unlikely that either will be around at # 17. But there are a good number of other D linemen who might be available ( unless they attract NFL attention). Badnah has not tested highly but his college experience indicates he might be a good game time player. A couple of players (Von Muehldorfer and Hoskins) look to have risen as a result of the testing and if they perform well Sat and Sun, they might be worth looking at in the latter rounds.

Re: Combine time
IMO there will be some good D-linemen available in the mid to later rounds; so they could go there early (say 2nd pick for a DT) and still get one (DT or DE) in later rounds; one guy who might be available later is Queens DE Silas Hubert (2 time OUA all-star at DE), who at 6-5 265, posted some very good athletic testing #s - has the DE experience but also the size/ frame to bulk up some to play DT possibly = maybe a guy who could play some both at DE & DT in the rotation.shatto wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 3:29 pm I agree Findlay, Beauchemin and Cumberbatch would all be excellent choices for the # 8 spot. Re: Combine time
Tired of this notion that a Canadian needs to bulk up and play DT. Some scouts said the same about his brother last year.OV Argo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 3:52 pmIMO there will be some good D-linemen available in the mid to later rounds; so they could go there early (say 2nd pick for a DT) and still get one (DT or DE) in later rounds; one guy who might be available later is Queens DE Silas Hubert (2 time OUA all-star at DE), who at 6-5 265, posted some very good athletic testing #s - has the DE experience but also the size/ frame to bulk up some to play DT possibly = maybe a guy who could play some both at DE & DT in the rotation.shatto wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 3:29 pm I agree Findlay, Beauchemin and Cumberbatch would all be excellent choices for the # 8 spot. Re: Combine time
Think OV meant he has the skills to play either DE or DT but will probably need to bulk up a little to play the DT position. I agree that Hubert could be an interesting selection in the later rounds.

It's a GOB cliche about Canadian players (and you see CFL media "experts" parroting this stuff all the time); but meanwhile American DTs like Micah Johnson can play at 270 or less and nobody ever says a peep about them being "under-sized". Good ole Jim Barker opined that Jesse Lumsden should be played at fullback in the CFL back in the day.
Shatto is correct on my idea that Hubert could play at both DT & DE in the CFL (wether he bulks up a bit or not) - just as David Menard and Jon Kongbo have done effectively in the CFL - a versatile player who can play some at both positions should be valued ?
Re: Combine time
I see Ali Saad did a Pro Day. It is interesting to compare his results to those of Von Muehldorfer, Von M results were way better than Saad's. Four CFL team reps were present ---but no rep from the Argos. I wonder if more CFL teams will now be interested in Von M come the draft.
Re: Combine time
A lot of CFL "scouts" will defer to a US college ball resume over a U Sports one - and sometimes maybe regardless of the stats / playing time or testing #s of the player. Not smart thinking IMO; the real key should be watching film of the 2 players you are considering and going with that mostly (backed by good testing #s which could tip the scale).shatto wrote: ↑Wed Mar 26, 2025 12:04 pm I see Ali Saad did a Pro Day. We'll see if the Argos are thinking DT (or safety) at all anyways come draft time. Nothing would surprise me when it comes to the CFL draft.
