Oops, sorry Ravi (and Will). Will wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 6:45 pmIt was Ravi who said that was a reasonable guess so I can't take credit.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 4:47 pm Let's just hope it's two games max (which seems like a reasonable guess, as Will already stated).

Re: BMO Renovation
I would love to know how much different (better or worse) the team facilities are at York vs. Guelph. Argos held camp at York several years ago, but they are pretty well ensconced at Guelph now, and I imagine the locker and meeting rooms there are better than York's. Whether that's sufficient reason to play games there is a matter of debate, but if the comments gilthethrill heard are accurate, it's a done deal.

One can presume that the team will not have access to their facilities at or near BMO while the World Cup games are being played. Having everything within the general vicinity of one another is important.

The stupidity of all levels of government boggles the mind.shatto wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 11:12 pm The cost of hosting the World Cup games in Toronto is now estimated to be 380 million but looking at past World Cups many now think this will be at least 600 million. The Federal and Provincial govts have committed a total of 200 million with the city on the hook for raising the rest. It was to be 80 million for the city but it could be much more. The Argos will have costs related to moving their games elsewhere including expanding the selected stadium. Can we assume those cost to the Argos will come out of the Toronto budget?
While I'm on a role, wouldn't it be nice to see the federal govt come up with part of the cost of a stadium in Halifax, since they are throwing 100 million for Toronto's World Cup. And---how much will the feds give to Vancouver for their games?
There will be the argument that the event will bring money into the city from visiting fans but believe me the taxes from that will never cover the cost to the city.

Re: BMO Renovation
My understanding is that Guelph's facilities are heads and shoulders above what anyone in at least Ontario has. Former Edmonton receiver Stu Lang has pumped a LOT of money into Guelph's facilities. I don't foresee the Argos moving from there for training camps for a very long time.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 7:24 am I would love to know how much different (better or worse) the team facilities are at York vs. Guelph. FIFA and the IOC take advantage of cities around the world on a regular basis and Toronto is only too willing to be taken advantage of.ARGO57 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 12:20 pmThe stupidity of all levels of government boggles the mind.shatto wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 11:12 pm The cost of hosting the World Cup games in Toronto is now estimated to be 380 million but looking at past World Cups many now think this will be at least 600 million.
