Don't rule out the possibility of Jonathan Edouard winning a starting job, possibly at safety. He's been very versatile lining up at SAM, HB and on the corner. IMO, has also looked good wherever he has played. I don't think the need in the secondary was all that high. They could use a young guy or 2 to develop behind Blackburn and Eduard, but not too worried about the position. DL was definitely a bigger need.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 12:35 pm
If Blackburn wins Metchie's safety job (which IMO is possible), great. It's also possible Argos didn't have Findlay rated as high as some mock drafts and some other teams.

Again, let's recognize what a great job Hogan does for the team and the fans. His draft article was insightful and very informative. Greatly appreciated Hoagie.
Let's also acknowledge that the team officials are more knowledgeable, experienced and have far superior intel than any of us. Having said that, it is still interesting the team gambled Shand would still be available at #19. It is great the gamble worked but unless they had a good idea what the other teams would choose, it does seem like a questionable gamble--but I stress it is only my opinion.

It was great to see Murphy was pound-the-table high on Assibo-Dadzie, clearly they thought he was a better-value DB pick than Findlay. And we picked him in almost the same draft spot as Blackburn last year, and that worked out pretty well.
Outside the first two picks the braintrust seems big on value picks, under the radar guys who through injuries or whatever fell lower than they might have otherwise, I think a pretty sound strategy.

Interesting to see in Hogie’s epic account that RD had the final call on all picks. Just like some of us thought, it looks like he is the de facto Director of Player Personnel in addition to his head coaching duties, which I think is a good thing, enhancing his authority in the locker room.

Recall the 2016 CFL draft, and I think Jim Barker was involved for the Argos - they were pounding the table, high-fiving and laughing cause they thought they had made such a steal of a great pick in the 2nd round with O-lineman DJ Sackey who was maybe not that highly rated, so they thought they were pulling this brilliant move on other CFL teams - did not pan-out as the guy only played a handful of games for the Argos the next few seasons. The first rounder that draft was big receiver Brian Jones - who did no pan out so well either in a not much of a CFL career. Jones was a highly touted prospect though - productive, big receiver and AUS MVP.RichK wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 3:00 pm It was great to see Murphy was pound-the-table high on Assibo-Dadzie, clearly they thought he was a better-value DB pick than Findlay. Examples of both a top rated prospect AND one of those supposed diamond / great find type picks - not panning out. That's the way she goes (sometimes - as Bubbles said to Ray). However, the number of those - who knew / guy did little in college ball - draft picks ever panning out as impact CFL players is miniscule, at best.

As I said earlier, Blackburn was an under the radar guy who may become a starter in his second year.OV Argo wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 3:39 pmRecall the 2016 CFL draft, and I think Jim Barker was involved for the Argos - they were pounding the table, high-fiving and laughing cause they thought they had made such a steal of a great pick in the 2nd round with O-lineman DJ Sackey who was maybe not that highly rated, so they thought they were pulling this brilliant move on other CFL teams - did not pan-out as the guy only played a handful of games for the Argos the next few seasons. Giving up on Onyeka (U Sports sack leader last season) without even a TC ? - must be good with Ojo & Hergott to compete at DE ? And as I mentioned before - last year's draft pick DB J. Cummings (1st team U Sports all-star at corner) - has signed with the EE, so i guess he was a write-off too ?ARGO57 wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 6:39 pm Some Argonauts signings announced.

Re: 2025 CFL Draft Thread
I took a quick look at that 2016 draft. Certainly wasn't a great year for prospects. Revenberg and Singleton were the only 2 First Rounders that I recognize and the 2nd Round Taylor Loffler was a good S if I recall but had injury issues?OV Argo wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 3:39 pmRecall the 2016 CFL draft, and I think Jim Barker was involved for the Argos - they were pounding the table, high-fiving and laughing cause they thought they had made such a steal of a great pick in the 2nd round with O-lineman DJ Sackey who was maybe not that highly rated, so they thought they were pulling this brilliant move on other CFL teams - did not pan-out as the guy only played a handful of games for the Argos the next few seasons.
