2025 Argonauts Roster

Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
Chop Williams is maybe the most talented and highly-regarded RB to come up to the CFL in many years. He was deemed too short for the NFL, like Michael Jenkins was, but I think Williams may find so much success up here that the NFL will give him a second look in a year or two, just like they did with Jenkins.
Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
The writing was on the wall for Dukes after the pre season games. Nice guy but Horn and Doege just out played him. Doege appears to be a stronger runner than Dukes and Horn looks to be a better pure passer. Expect to see Horn on PR when Kelly returns. I wonder if Carey came to camp a little out of shape?--only a question not a suggestion. Still a huge number of OL players on roster. Will we see someone on the IL or perhaps a trade? There were a number of surprises in the cuts but to me Zorn was a surprise.
Not a great draft result so far. Out of 10 Can and Global players only Ojo made the roster. But a little too early to say as some may be signed in the future--hopefully,

I hope you are right there Rich (and u called it with Chad Kelly's talent back when there were some doubters); love to see another new & powerful Argo rookie RB emerge - like Jenkins. The fear of losing top CFL talent to the NFL is less now though IMO; the NFL "experts" basically don't give a flying f*** about how good a player is in CFL play; Williams' big name college ball resume is what could get him another look, but doubtful IMO.RichK wrote: ↑Sun Jun 01, 2025 11:20 am Chop Williams is maybe the most talented and highly-regarded RB to come up to the CFL in many years. I'm perhaps most surprised by the release of vet DB Ciante Evans; and again, price tag might be a big factor in the release of some of these veterans.
This past Argo draft was mostly about futures I guess; Shand was an NFL flight risk; needed more LBs or O-line like a hole in the head; Zorn tried at fullback - a position of not much in the Argo offence - when he was a force at tailback in U Sports ball. Blew a chance to draft safeties, DTs or maybe receivers = much bigger areas of need IMO. Maybe the 2 U Sports DBs go back for a final year of U Sports ball and emerge as good players down the road. I just hope the myopia does not come back to bite them.
Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
A couple of the American receivers not getting (or rejecting) a practice roster spot is a bit of a surprise, though that was one of the more competitive positions in camp.
Carey will be 33 this year. He beat the odds for a pro RB years ago.
I don't recall any of the other cuts standing out much in the pre-season games and scrimmage.

Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
Looking at the Argo roster on their website, I see the following:
- 49 players listed on active -- maximum is 45, so four will need to moved to IR or elsewhere
- Four QBs -- one will go on IR or elsewhere
- Eight O-linemen (one INT, seven NAT) -- one will go on IR or elsewhere
- Nine WR (five INT, four NAT) -- I imagine one of the INTs (either Slywka or Herslow) won't be active
- Ten D-line (eight INT, two NAT) -- at least two will not be dressed
- Six (!) DB (four INT, two NAT) -- that seems very thin, although it would be closer to the usual seven if Slywka is counted
- Benjie Franklin is nowhere to be found, neither active nor injured. Probably an oversight and he'll go on IR
- 26 INTs in total (4 QBs, 22 others) -- we can dress maximum of three QBs and 20 others
- 21 NATs and 2 GLO -- we can dress maximum of 22 combined so one NAT (likely Bosse) will sit

Very good analysis there. Don’t know why, but I thought Slywka was a National.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 01, 2025 1:02 pm Looking at the Argo roster on their website, I see the following:

Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
I don't think anyone can say that there wasn't real and excellent training camp competition, given the quality players the Argos had to cut.

Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
With DE Andrew Chatfield making the roster and Ottawa cutting DB Craig James, it appears the Argos won that trade.
However DL Andre Carter, who came this way in the Adebeboye deal has been put on the Suspended List again.

Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
A very sound plan, but as others have noted, why didn’t they sign Doege or another big running QB sooner? Short yardage was obviously a big weakness in 24, maybe the team’s biggest. But they did nothing to address it until the last couple of days of camp. Why not?
Did they think Dukes’ ability to run the offence outweighed the need for a SY QB, and when he seemed to regress in camp they changed the plan? Did they have another plan maybe involving a big body in a wildcat that fell through? It’s a real head-scratcher to me why they waited so long.
