The offence and special teams scored enough points to win a football game. Defence is the issue to repeat what everyone is saying here. 2 years of being picked over on the defence in free agency has caught up with the team. They couldn't stop Hamiltons offence last night. Losing your entire defensive line was never going to be easy to recover from, and it is playing out in front of us. And the trades they made for what they got back are not adding up.

When reports first came out that Kelly’s rehab was progressing fast and he could be ready for the season, I was questioning such. To my recollection, players don’t bounce back from broken legs, some are career enders. I decided to look up the stats and the average return to game day for a broken fib in the NFL was 232 days. At this point, Kelly is just over that timeline should he return week 7. His progress was good to hear, but I think we were led to believe a little more positivity than the actual truth.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 04, 2025 11:07 pm I don't know if anyone saw Overdrive today, but I'm told Scianitti said Kelly is out until August. He was moving pretty gingerly on the sideline and on the field during warmups.

It would also be foolhardy to expect vintage Chad Kelly when he returns, will take him some time to knock off the rust.ArgoZ wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 10:37 amWhen reports first came out that Kelly’s rehab was progressing fast and he could be ready for the season, I was questioning such. I just think that money is a huge factor when careers are short. Also, Toronto is an expensive city to live in. I feel like we would have heard rumblings from dissatisfied players by now if there were any - especially with the CFLPA survey. The Argos ranked in the middle of the pack while the Ticats were #1 and Saskatchewan was up there too. The Argos have a lot of money tied into a few players so the other shoe has to drop elsewhere. Also, two big losses were to the NFL in Polk and Holley. Add in an unprecedented number of early-season injuries and a short week this week and 1-4 is what you get. I firmly believe that if Chad Kelly had been able to play so far this year - and Arbuckle has been decent IMO - the Argos would be no worse than 3-2.ARGO57 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 8:34 amI suspect so Paul, I’m purely speculating as to why so many players would leave a team that has won 2 Grey Cups (could very well have been 3) in the last 3 seasons, you would think that is a recipe to retain talent.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 8:00 am Much as we all love Pinball, he is not a GM in any traditional sense of the word. He doesn't recruit and he doesn't sign players. That leaves Murphy and Dinwiddie in charge. One can only speculate but if there was stuff going on behind the scenes to alienate players, it would have to go through those two, would it not?
Pinball is a wonderful guy so I can’t see him being a negative factor, Murphy on the other hand can find talent but may possibly be a challenge to deal with?

At this point, I think counting on Kelly as the saviour this year would be foolish. He might come back and be similar to what he was before, or he might never be the same, or he might not get cleared to play for weeks (or longer). Have to assume he's getting the best possible treatment, although I did find it a bit odd when Dinwiddie said recently he had gone to Buffalo to see his own doctor. Could be many reasons he'd do that, of course.ArgoZ wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 10:37 amWhen reports first came out that Kelly’s rehab was progressing fast and he could be ready for the season, I was questioning such. And whomever is playing quarterback will need much better o-line play than we've had through five games. If the brass is worried about protecting Kelly against further injury, I can see why they're not rushing him back.

On another note kudos to the Argonauts coaching staff for wearing TEAMTED shirts in support of Ticats GM Ted Goveia as he battles cancer.

I wouldn't say Bo Levi Mitchell was hot as much as we made him look like Peyton Manning. As someone else posted, he was rarely moved off his spot and had lots of time. As an experienced QB with a strong arm, I am not surprised he made those big completions, especially with a stud receiver like Lawler. As has happened too many times already, we can't establish a run game, and pass protection has not been great. Fix that, and some of our problems may disappear. I think it is way too early to consider bringing Chad Kelly back, especially after the injury he suffered. The Argos have to hang tight and try to keep pace in the division. Not realistic to think we can win it, but we have to stay competitive enough that if we aren't in second place at the end, that we at least have a better record than the 4th or 5th placed teams in the West. TSN showed Dinwiddie a lot on the sidelines and to me, it looked like he had an expression of resignation. To others points, maybe he realizes he doesn't have the pieces he needs. But the season is still young.

The inability of our secondary to win the 50/50 balls is probably the most infuriating part about this season so far. Over the last few seasons our teams were some of the best at knocking balls down, or away, and that simply hasn't happened this year. I can't be the only one who gets dejected seeing a ball thrown thirty yards downfield and not having the confidence in our DBs to knock the ball away.
We have two weeks now to rest and reflect. It's been a difficult stretch at home, considering this is the first time in forever we have dropped three consecutive home games. Speaking for myself, I know I have to be less temperamental about things during the game.

Can’t disagree with your post especially regarding Dinwiddie, he really looked defeated on the sideline during last nights game.RB957 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 2:37 pm I wouldn't say Bo Levi Mitchell was hot as much as we made him look like Peyton Manning. This is truly uncharted territory for him since his arrival in Toronto.

The rumblings I've heard going back months are that Dinwiddie is in charge of football ops; almost the de facto GM. If it's true, he is finding out just how difficult it is to wear so many hats. Someone decided to dump Allen's salary, not push harder to sign some key free agents, cut a 1,000-yard rusher after sitting him out of both preseason games, etc. I doubt Murphy did all that on his own. So if RD is upset about the lack of talent on his team, he might not have to look far to figure out why.
