Adding another solid NAT starter on D could be a game changer for this season. Let’s hope.
I'd guess with his NFL resume that Vilain might get a shot to play for the Argos and sooner than later, but who knows. Chatfield has been a nice find at DE but another difference maker in the rotation could help lots.
What also might help is finding a more powerful RB and getting a clue about an applied ground game to help relieve pressure on the O-line and a not very mobile, mistake prone, passing QB trying to run an all-pass offence. Very surprised that HC RD has gone away from that this season and does not seem to understand the consequences.
They have absolutely wanted to run the ball but haven't been able to because of the o-line. If you're constantly in 2nd and long after trying to run, you don't have much choice but to go away from it.
McMahon and Laborn had 5 carries combined against Winnipeg, and even in a game where you’re coming from behind that’s not good enough. I think the limited options at RB clearly indicate the team’s lack of commitment to the run game.
Maybe Chop Williams is coming back soon, hopefully so, but in the meantime why are there are no new wrinkles in the playbook to take advantage of McMahon and Laborn’s strengths? How about a sweep or a pitch-out to get these guys outside in space? When’s the last time RD called a fricken draw play?

Kevin Brown has signed with Hamilton. I don't think he will beat out a healthy Greg Bell, but the way this season has gone he will probably go off for 200 yards on Labour Day.
Dan Ralph is reporting that the Argos have brought in a OL named Brandon Kemp. He's spent some time with Hamilton and Saskatchewan over the past few years. While no guarantee that he's part of the solution to OL woes, at least they're trying to address the position.

Perhaps a more notable signing could be Canadian OG Ryan Sceviour, who played with Calgary from 2018-23 and Saskatchewan last season. He was a West all-star in 2022 but was injured for much of last season, only playing in 8 games. He was a free agent this offseason and it's curious as to why he wasn't signed. Maybe it had something to do with his injury from last season (elbow, I believe) or another personal matter. Since he is a guard, he could be brought in to compete with Doxtater and Vandal or allowing Doxtater move to right tackle..
It's also obvious the team are trying to find a main running back with bringing in Peny Boone and Spencer Brown.
Not surprising that the team cut Jarrett Martin. He seemed invisible on defense.
Also in a timely piece of news, I just discovered that the Texans waived Jared Wayne. Just imagine if the Argos could bring both Makai Polk and Wayne in.

That would be very good, of course, but receiver is already a position of strength. Polk could obviously be plugged in immediately. Wayne would likely replace Mayala as a backup while learning the offence.

Screviour got hurt last season so perhaps he is now healthy enough to resume playing. I think Boone was on the Argos Neg List. Brandon Dozier was cut by Hamilton today. I would think Blackburn will remain at S since Slywka appears to be out again this week. Dozier could replace the departed Martin at SAM.
Well it only took a month or so to fill the vacancies in the RB room, better late than never. Here’s betting the inside run blocking for the 6’1-235 Boone looks better than it did for McMahon.

As much as I like McMahon, his body can't take the pounding of being an every down back. Once the Argos find a big bruiser that can remain healthy, then McMahon can go back to his role as a change of pace back and regain his effectiveness.
