I believe Duggan was on the Argos radar prior to Kelly's injury. I heard Duggan actually requested his release from the UFL most likely due to the usual off season turmoil of that league. Like every team, it will bring in players that they think will improve them. I'm not concerned about Chad's long term health, the team is being cautious but I don't see why he can't be the Argos QB for the next several years.primetime321 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 27, 2025 11:02 pm I really like the signings of Duggan and Wallace but admittedly know little of Doiron. However, a little part of me is concerned that the arrival of Duggan is due to some uncertainty over Kelly’s long term health. I hope that this isn’t the case.

I think it’s more a case of wanting to upgrade the depth. Facebook group which apparently hates Arbuckle and has wanted Tucker Horn to replace him aside, I don’t think the Argos feel great about what’s behind Arbuckle at this time. Also, I think at the very least, Duggan can be the short yardage QB we have been looking for.primetime321 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 27, 2025 11:02 pm I really like the signings of Duggan and Wallace but admittedly know little of Doiron. That is a very good point about him being the short yardage QB. Watching his highlights, it is difficult to not be impressed with his running ability. His passes have zip but he does not look as comfortable making the long passes. Am looking forward to seeing him in action for the Argos

The Stamps used a mid round draft pick last season on Quincy Vaughn - a big body TE who has QB playing experience in US college ball; he has done well in short yardage duties for the Stamps this season and played some H-back for them. Nice, smart draft pick IMO - teams who address specific or diverse needs thru the draft often see it pay dividends.
There are often big body or good run threat QBs from U Sports ball at draft time = pay attention GOB myopic dullards

Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
Short yardage or otherwise, I'll be surprised if Duggan dresses this year. The Argos abandoned the idea of dressing a third QB early in 2022 when Austin Simmons walked away from football, but otherwise I don't recall Dinwiddie shaking up the QB room to the extent of dropping someone who'd been dressing (other than moving Scott to the PR when Kelly's suspension ended).
Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
Vaughn was drafted in the 2nd round - 17th overall. Some criticized the Stamps in using such a high pick on him when he likely would have been available much later. In any case, he is one of 3 Canadian QBs in the CFL currently.OV Argo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 1:34 pmshatto wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 11:13 am That is a very good point about him being the short yardage QB. The Argos are unlikely to keep 5 QBs around when Kelly returns to the lineup. Unless they don't like what they see from Duggan in practice, I suspect that Doege might be on the bubble.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 2:25 pm Short yardage or otherwise, I'll be surprised if Duggan dresses this year. Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
Yeah. The fact he hasn't been used on short yardage suggests he's strictly an emergency guy.
Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
He's 1 for 1 in short yardage situations with a TD early in the year. I wonder why they haven't tried him more often.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 4:45 pmYeah. The fact he hasn't been used on short yardage suggests he's strictly an emergency guy.
Re: 2025 Argonauts Roster
They lined up Mital once as the short yardage QB and that also worked. They haven't gone back to that either.AngeloV wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 5:29 pmHe's 1 for 1 in short yardage situations with a TD early in the year.
