Also lost in all this griping about a mistake that wasn't actually a mistake in the end, is the fact that the Argos are back in thick of things. Second place is wide open now, we have meaningful fall football ahead of us and the team can get better. Things were looking grim a month ago.
Agreed. We also will get a better sense this upcoming weekend as to who the Argos' targets should be the rest of the season. After this next weekend, everyone will have played 12 games. If BC, Montreal, and Saskatchewan all win, there could be four 6-6 teams with the Argos needing to beat out one, along with Edmonton and Ottawa who they're already ahead.
Who should we be rooting for this weekend? Ottawa, Montreal, and Saskatchewan? Ottawa would only tie the Argos with a win but Toronto holds the tiebreaker.
Catch second in the East and hold it if you can. You don't have to worry about the crossover at that point. If Montreal loses at least one of their next two, and the Argos beat Edmonton, then we have a humdinger of a matchup on September 19 at BMO when the Als come to town.
I'm rooting firmly against every other team in the East.

Argos win a thriller in Hamilton, on Labour Day, and some fans here are griping about a mistake that didn't matter. Never change, Argofans.com.
It’s all giggles since they won, yet I don’t see any problem discussing it, this is a discussion board. They were 1 second away from a bonehead play that would have been endlessly mocked. I don’t see anyone complaining, only observing. Brissett has to go down there, especially with the whole sideline yelling to do so!
I still remember his rookie season where he always tried to jump unnecessarily for every catch. More experienced now and he’s really great at timing and using the jumping now. Guy can pull down anything. Love having him on the team.

Totally agree. Brissett made a foolish and undisciplined play but I still love the guy. The best hands on the team. Experience and grit and versatility. An indispensable pillar of the Big 5:
Brissett
Coxie
Mital
Polk
Herslow
This may be the most talented starting group of receivers I’ve seen the Argos field in all my decades watching this crazy team.

I disagree
1991 Grey Cup starters: D.K Smith, Rocket Ismail, David Williams, Paul Masotti & Pinball, depth pieces that year were Jeff Boyd and Andrew Murray.

Brissett should have been coached to go down very soon after the catch, BEFORE the play, and not by yelling from the sideline; but if he scores a TD there it is a walk-off win basically; a FG can be missed or blocked and then they lose.
That 5 pack would be up there with an all-time Argo receiver corps - perhaps; but not as proven as some great ones of the past; interesting that few note that Mital leads the league in receptions; by NFL stats, that would make him the #1 receiver in the league, as they go by number of catches over yardage i believe (?)
Pinball by 91 was already more of a slotback used as a pass target and as a RB, so like part of a 5 pack; Kevin Smellie was more the main ball carrier or stayed in to block often.

I was thinking that too, but we are both wrong. Pinball carried 64 times for 443 and Smellie only 48 for 252 in 91.
It surprised me to see that.

Those stats don't lie. While Pinball had a huge year catching the ball in 1990 (72 for 905), he was the Argos' feature back every year until 1996. He rarely lined up anywhere other than the backfield until he was formally converted to slotback. The Argo offence was obviously pass-heavy in 1990-91, but CFL teams consistently used four receivers and two backs (one HB, one FB). The one exception was the Stampeders, who brought in a six-pack fairly regularly (with the RBs going off the field and extra receivers coming on).
I am aware that Pinball lined up in the backfield in 1991, but considered Pinball as 1/5 receivers because of the type of offense the Argos ran at the time. I would honestly do the same for Cedric Minter and consider him in evaluating the 1982 and 1983 receiving corps. I suppose Robert Drummond might deserve the same treatment, although he did rush for over 1,000 yards that one season.
The 2005 receiving corps consisting of Miles, Bruce, Baker, Talbot and Soward was pretty good, too, but I'm still sticking with the '91 group.
