What if they lose a yard or two as they often did tonight?
So what - strong leg FG kickers make 60 yard kicks often now; i guess you liked the dumb pick better ?
Often? There has been one made all season.

A case can definitely be made that you take the FG and then hope your defence gets the ball back in time for a winning FG. But if that's the strategy, why did they go for it on third down three plays earlier, thereby costing themselves about 45 seconds of game time? Wouldn't you take the FG as soon as it was available, then kick off and rely on your defence?
Argo strategy worked, but I would have gone for it on the theory that we had them on their heels and there's no guarantee we'd get another shot at it.
Sorry; I watch NFL ball too and 58 to 60 plus yard FGs are happening plenty; also, many of the 55+ yard FGs I have seen in the CFL the past few years have cleared the bar with plenty to spare, meaning they would have easily have been good from several more yards including 60 plus. L. H. would have had to try a 58 yarder if they gained zero yards on 2nd down; a simple 3 yard gain makes it a 55 yarder. Sorry about having to inform you of that football info though. I guess a young QB throwing a game ending pick was the only possible call there.

Still only one 60 yarder in the CFL this year.

The kicker typically tells the coach the extent of his range after warm-ups. I can only assume Dinwiddie knew more yards were needed.

As for a simple three yard run, not with this Argo team.

Twenty 60 plus yard FGs made in the NFL since 2020; yep but just one made in the CFL so far this year, but Maltos has a 58 and Lauther a 59 and L H a 56. And L. H would have had to have made a 58 yarder with zero gain on 2nd down; that becomes 57 or 56 or less maybe with a short surprise QB plunge or draw even, that the D would not have been expecting in normal formation where they are looking for something else.

You have to try to get closer than 56 to 58 IMO and I have zero problems with the Argos trying to do that. L H from inside 50 is a much better chance than from 56 to 58.

Sorry, but I much prefer a veteran kicker attempting to make a walk-off winning FG from 57 yards, then having a young QB maybe make a big mistake with just a few seconds left on the clock at the end of the game (let's see, what can happen on that 2nd down short pass there? - a completion for a few yards to make the FG try a bit more comfortable?, OR, a bad throw or dropped pass or pass knockdown for zero yards / a sack to take you out of FG range / or an INT to end the game) But, if they have pretty well little faith in that vet FG kicker, and more faith in an ultra inexperienced QB, then sure, go with some other play.
