Kevin Mital
Finishes this season with 102 receptions - current league leader - that would put him in top 10 (maybe #6) in all-time Argo single season pass catching history. Also sits 2nd in the league in YAC yards. Have to think he could have done even more with Chad Kelly - able to throw deep so well - at QB all season. But Mital is an excellent short pass / hands / possession guy and a beast to bring down.
Hopefully, they retain Mital as a building block in the receiving corps for years to come. Goes to show what a sharp draft pick can mean in the CFL = you get a league best calibre talent sometimes if you draft smart.

Re: Kevin Mital
Its hard to imagine that they would not retain Mital.
The Argos were lucky to get him. Many "experts" were surprised that he wasn't chosen before the Argo's pick.
Lets hope there is another Mital in the coming draft, though it will likely have to be on the defensive side of the ball.

I'll guess they will try hard to retain Mital; but he was a 1st round / 5th overall pick, so not like he was under-noticed.Unplayable wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 1:07 pm Its hard to imagine that they would not retain Mital.

This coming draft does seem to have a lot of pretty decent D talent - D-Line & secondary guys - where the Argos can use help.
And the first edition CFL Scouting Bureau features 20 Canadian players all from US college ball ranks; some good talent getting good training. The CFL scouting clique has big preference for American trained guys, but what that can mean is there can be some very under-rated or even ignored Canadian talent from U Sports ball. Sharp scouts will notice these guys and maybe get to draft them, even later, if not in the early rounds. Stavros Katsantonis (easily best safety in the league now, IMO) and Adrian Greene (been very strong at starting corner for the Stamps and up there with league leaders with 6 INTs, including two pick-sixes); another U Sports D product - AJ Allen - sits at 5th in the league in tackles this season after getting a chance to be a regular starter on D for the Riders - are glaring examples of top notch football talent being gift/stolen - all 4th rounders - picks in the CFL draft. This type of thing happens pretty well every CFL draft. Maybe the Argos GM/scouts score big next draft; but after the treatment of 1st round pick Ojo this season, I'm not overly confident there.

Re: Kevin Mital
Mital will have one year left on his rookie deal, so no threat of losing him for a year. But the team should be proactive in offering him a lucrative extension beyond 2026.

Agreed. Mital recently said that he wants to stay in Toronto long-term too.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 2:08 pm Mital will have one year left on his rookie deal, so no threat of losing him for a year. But the team should be proactive in offering him a lucrative extension beyond 2026.

Re: Kevin Mital
There is no question, that teams with good scouting can find the talent in the CIS ranks and with many teams looking at NCAA first strong CIS talent is there to be had. It's why the CFL draft has good players in rounds 4 and 5 now. The Argos have been one of those in the Pinball/Dinwiddie era. You can only be a perennial Cup contender with excellent Canadians, starters and depth.OV Argo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 1:34 pmI'll guess they will try hard to retain Mital; but he was a 1st round / 5th overall pick, so not like he was under-noticed.Unplayable wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 1:07 pm Its hard to imagine that they would not retain Mital.

Re: Kevin Mital
He was not named an East All Star today. That is disappointing.

Re: Kevin Mital
He caught a lot of balls and was a willing blocker, but averaging only 8.7 yds per catch really stands out. No one else in the top 35 for receiving yardage averaged under 10.Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Wed Oct 29, 2025 5:06 pm He was not named an East All Star today. That is disappointing.
Re: Kevin Mital
And again - tied for 1st in the league in # of receptions, and 2nd in YAC yards - how did the other top 35 receivers in the league do in those categories ?
