What about a trade idea?

Post by TrueBlueDouble Blue »

Looks like Tre Ford has overstayed his welcome in Edmonton.
Maybe a trade Arbuckle for Ford?
Thoughts?

Evaluating this as trading a #2 for a #2, I trust Arbuckle to make plays from the pocket more than Ford.

This Argo regime wouldn't take a Canadian QB on the roster if it was poured on them (credit: King Roy Shivers)

Difficult to make an argument that Ford is an upgrade on Arbuckle. Ironically though, Ford displaced Arbuckle in Edmonton in 2022.

I'd take Ford (at significantly reduced salary) as a project, but I have no desire to see Arbuckle play anywhere but Toronto.

I don't think you have to trade for Ford. He's making starter's money so EDM will have to cut or renegotiate his contract by Feb 1 since they made it clear they want Fajardo back.

If they really believe Kelly will be back playing next year, I'm not sure we need Ford. But if there's any doubt with Kelly, It might be worth exploring. And only if management and coaches think Ford can be a starter in the league.

I would definitely take him on as a project. If anyone can get him going it would be Dinwiddie. He has skills and talent in excess. It may come down to work ethic, and desire to get better, because he should be getting it done by now. If he can ever get that down his upside is huge. His mobility and arm strength more closely match Kelly's, so game plan can playbook can be similar.

I don’t think Ford’s arm strength is anywhere close to Chad Kelly’s.

I don’t think Ford’s arm strength is anywhere close to Chad Kelly’s.
The game he played against the Argos last year or year before, last play of first half, he ran all over the field being chased down, he gets to Argo sideline and throws pass off balance on sideline into middle of endzone for a TD strike. Not too many QBs can do that.
Chad can, and Kellys arm is strongest in league, but Ford certainly has all of the physical skills an elite QB needs.

Definitely not; nor are his vision or QB reads ability anywhere near Chad's IMO; and though Kelly is well above average as a mobile / run threat QB, Ford is simply superior there and maybe the best the CFL has seen in a long time.

I don't think, however, that Cameron Dukes, or Bryan Scott or Tucker Horn's "arm strength" are anywhere close to Ford's.
