I have been thinking about this a lot in the past weeks, and wanted to get others' thoughts on it, but didn't know where else to post, so have started a new thread.
In a off-hand way, and in light of the success of the Blue Jays this post-season, I think it is a bit of a blessing that the Argos a) didn't make the playoffs this season and more importantly b) did not secure home field advantage for the East semi-final.
The Jays have rightfully stirred the hopes and dreams of the city, and the entire country, with their success. And with that, almost all of the oxygen in the sports atmosphere. Even the Leafs aren't getting as much attention.
So my point is, had the Argos made the playoffs, and worse, were hosting the East semi-final this week, I don't believe that they would get any serious coverage... and worse, with a potential game 7 in the World Series on Saturday, I would worry about how well-attended the game would be. And the Argos players deserve better than that. You hear so much from the Jays players about how the energy and enthusiasm of the fans makes a difference to them. That's what I would want for the Argos at this time of year, and I would feel bad for them that they don't get that same kind of love.
Don't get me wrong.... I think the true fans of the Argos are the best and most loyal in the world... but unfortunately there are not enough of us, and with all the attention focused on the Jays, casual fans who might otherwise have jumped on board wouldn't.
I would be interested to hearing others thoughts on this.
Was it actually a good thing the Argos missed the playoffs this year?

You make a good argument here. The Leafs have not set the world on fire, and in a normal world they would be sucking all the oxygen but as you stated they are under the radar right now.RB957 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 12:41 pm I have been thinking about this a lot in the past weeks, and wanted to get others' thoughts on it, but didn't know where else to post, so have started a new thread.

Not making the playoffs is rarely a good thing, but certainly the Argos would not be getting any attention in Toronto this weekend had they made it.
I don't usually cheer for the Blue Jays, because they and Rogers have rarely cheered on the Argos or done them any favors. I believe they will win the World Series and hope they do it Friday, so the CFL can at least play their semis in peace on Saturday. The CFL always had November to themselves now by moving season earlier and earlier the Playoffs and Grey Cup will compete with hockey playoffs, NBA playoffs in spring and baseball playoffs in October. Only an issue when Jays, Raptors and Canadian hockey teams are in mix. I understand why the CFL are doing it. US expansion and TV money. If Quebec City and Halifax are not going to step up the league will go to St. Louis for the 10th team. They are tired of being paupers and getting the scraps of TV money in Canada when their numbers deserve more than the share they get.

To put it as nicely as I can, not a fan of this whole situation

I'm looking forward to a period of a few weeks where Toronto is both Grey Cup and World Series Champions, something that's only happened in Toronto in 1992 and will probably never happen to any other CFL city!
semi seriously I hope there's an opportunity for a great photo of the Grey Cup and World Series trophies together.

its kind of nice that BC and Ticats are in playoffs... their owners are amazing.... Ticats have some great stuff planned for game day... BC owner is doing his best to pump up the game on a short week. I would imagine a few of us are going to make the trip to the hammer for the game.
There are a bunch of other positives ... one BC, three prairie, one Quebec and one GTA team in playoffs... and the games should all be good.
Sometimes for me .... with the City not supporting the ARGOS and especially having an ownership like MLSE.... it doesn't seem right us winning the GC when you see how engaged other cities and ownership are around the league... especially this year...
But playoffs should be awesome if your a glass half full person like me... can't win every year ... Go ARGOS !!!

Of course not! That being said, I see where you are coming from. I went to a couple of bars last night. The first one had the B.C. Calgary game on. While deciding whether to wait for a table (a matter of minutes) the game was switched to U.S. College Ball. The second one also had U.S. College ball and highlights of previous Blue Jays play-off games showing. This being Toronto, I don't think what I described would any different if the Argos were playing, which is sad.
