Will someone please explain to me why Keith Pelley, the CEO of a massive sports conglomerate, would get anywhere near contract negotiations for head coach of the Argonauts? Isn't that at least one thing we would expect a GM to look after (even though the GM apparently doesn't do other GM stuff like scout, recruit and negotiate player contracts)? I know Pelley fell in love with Craig Berube after going out for lunch with "Chief," but does he really plan to have all team personnel report directly to him?

Pelley is a legend in his own mind and seems to be a control freak, no surprise here.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 12, 2025 5:17 pmWill someone please explain to me why Keith Pelley, the CEO of a massive sports conglomerate, would get anywhere near contract negotiations for head coach of the Argonauts? Howard Berger is reporting a deal will be made between Toronto and Osh.

He shouldn't be. But do we have any idea how "operational" Pinball is in the GM's role?paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 12, 2025 5:17 pmWill someone please explain to me why Keith Pelley, the CEO of a massive sports conglomerate, would get anywhere near contract negotiations for head coach of the Argonauts? And they were brought in long before MLSE took over as part of Clemons original plan to build a consistent contender year in, year out. What happened and what changed to throw Pinball off the trajectory and success they were having?paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 12, 2025 5:14 pmBoth Magri and Russell left (and weren't replaced) long before MLSE took over.Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Wed Nov 12, 2025 4:01 pm Or better yet fix the personnel dept of the Argos. As I say and will continue to say to Keith Pelley just let Pinball go back to running this thing. He was doing pretty good until Rogers bought the whole cow.
Make Clemons President!!!

To me it's crystal clear -- he is not an "operational" GM in any sense of the word. His role in scouting, recruiting and negotiating is minimal.RB957 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 12, 2025 11:58 pmHe shouldn't be. Guaranteed there would be a couple of usual suspect types to defend and approve of the Argos hiring of that clown Jones; an "experienced" football man, don't you know; might even be able to learn some uneducated Argo players what a route tree is.

And he is likely taking a big chunk out of our small CFL football ops budget. Is his presence the reason we can’t afford more front office staff under the ops cap? Does this need to be re-thought?paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 13, 2025 9:34 amTo me it's crystal clear -- he is not an "operational" GM in any sense of the word.
