Steve Simmons is reporting that one of the reasons Dinwiddie left is that he wanted Murphy gone. Not the first time I've heard words to that effect.
For what it's worth, he's also reporting that O'Shea turned the job down because his family didn't want to leave Wpg.

I think Miller is the obvious #1 candidate for OC at the very least. I’m not sure if he’s the best choice for HC but he’s definitely qualified. I just think given his excellent rapport with Chad, maybe it’d be better for the team if Miller spent 100 % of his time building on that relationship.
I really think it’s time for a defensive HC. I don’t believe we’ve had one since the late great Stoobs. With a Kelly/Miller offence hopefully in place, I’d love to see a HC who can build a signature Argonauts defence to complement it.
My first choice would be Jordan Younger, but mostly for the sweet symmetry of poaching an all-time Argo from the Bombers coaching staff.

There are some solid candidates on all sides of the ball they could look at, including Younger, Josh Bell, and Byron Archambeault. Bringing the likes of Kent Austin or Chris Jones back doesn't enthuse me a lot.RichK wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2025 1:16 amI think Miller is the obvious #1 candidate for OC at the very least. I’m leaning in the direction of giving a young coach a chance to advance and develop as a head coach, Pinball did this 5 years ago with Dinwiddie.ArgoRavi wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2025 1:43 amThere are some solid candidates on all sides of the ball they could look at, including Younger, Josh Bell, and Byron Archambeault. The other consideration for me is a younger coach currently in the league will be more in tune with building a coaching staff with some fresh ideas.

A young coach would at least be cheap, and allow the team extra room to afford decent assistants and maybe even staff up the football ops. That's if MLSE is even willing to spend to the cap.
Re: Naylor: Argos receive permission to speak to O'Shea
Since he wanted the full GM job, it makes sense he might not want the current structure of an assistant. That being said, I firmly believe my hypothesis that there were power struggles going on this year around player personnel. Obviously the Kelly situation. It’s quite possible that one of Pinball, Murph or Dinwiddie flat out said that we don’t need Allen (or any other player), he’s replaceable, etc. While the other two are still upset about giving in to that opinion.paulwoods13 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 15, 2025 10:01 pm Steve Simmons is reporting that one of the reasons Dinwiddie left is that he wanted Murphy gone. To be frank, I’m a little insulted that the Argos gave a nobody a chance at head coach, and even time to learn some GM responsibilities and he leaves like that’s a negative. I’d be dumbfounded myself as his boss. Dinwiddie arrogance has grown (we seen it this season) to the point that he’s now better than the people who have hired him in the first place. I also see no evidence (judging by this season), that he will be successful as a GM. Tripling down as the HC and OC seems even more unlikely to find success.
Dinwiddie was great on offence scheme and working with QB’s. He wasn’t this untouchable world’s best coach that I’m reading. I still firmly believe calling out players twice was terrible. And proof is in the pudding. It doesn’t work, even when a leader like McManis claims he’s on board. Players aren’t on board. The 3rd and 1’s from the gun were as awful as the song. Total amateur stuff. How many times must we discuss how he uses his challenge in the first half and when the game comes down to it, we don’t have one? Stubborn, much like how he never pulls a QB out for any reason. I wish he was still our coach for continuity sake, yet parting ways hardly has me upset as others. We’ll survive and probably convert more short yardage next season.
Re: Naylor: Argos receive permission to speak to O'Shea
I’m on board with this post. If Kelly is the QB, then let’s keep what makes him tick and try to blow the doors off opponents with Miller as OC or HC if necessary. Poaching Younger or adding a defensive minded coach to refresh the D sounds great too. Having Kent Austin run his predicable, stubborn (“I’ll use Ricky Williams when I want too”) offence is moving backwards.RichK wrote: ↑Sun Nov 16, 2025 1:16 amI think Miller is the obvious #1 candidate for OC at the very least. Re: Naylor: Argos receive permission to speak to O'Shea
According to Naylor and Lalji, the Argos threw everything at Mike O'Shea, including offering to build a personnel department around him.
They're claiming that the four top candidates now are Austin, Steinauer, Mike Miller, and Noel Thorpe.

They could have just done this 12 months ago. They might not be in this mess if they did.

Are you referring to obtaining O'Shea 12 months ago? If so then how would the optics of that look with Dinwiddie just winning a second Grey Cup in three years?IssuesMcgee wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 1:46 pmThey could have just done this 12 months ago. They might not be in this mess if they did.
As for my one cent worth (the rest going to taxes) of the so-called top four candidates, IMO, Steinhauer won't leave his position in Hamilton; Austin is a complete no-go given his stubbornness and involvement in the tire fire that was the QB room at Auburn this fall and I'm not sure how Thorpe would do as a head man (the only experience as HC being the Canadian junior team coach) even though he is perhaps the top d-coordinator in the league. That would leave Mike Miller who would bring continuity and a strong offensive mind, not to mention his relationship with Kelly. I would be onboard with Miller given the job. Now it's down to Rogers to give Miller the support that he needs from a football ops standpoint.
