Chad Kelly in 2026

Post by Scooter McCray »

I was listening to Arash Madani on the Sportscage (turn it up to 10, and rip off the knob) yesterday and he was saying that on February 1, Chad is owed a bonus of $225,000. That he is, and will be healthy for the 2026 season. He was speculating whether or not the Argos will pay Chad his bonus or trade him before Feb 1.

I think with all of the other crap that is going on with this team, that the last thing they should want to do is trade away the best QB in the league. Especially one with ties to Buffalo and MLSE love everything Bills. But again if they are trying to kill this team you would trade away your best player

Please discuss...

Almost nothing the org could do would surprise me these days. Trade Kelly, keep Kelly, release Kelly -- whatever happens, at least Keith is in charge!

Even MLSE (Rogers) can't be stupid enough not to keep Kelly.

Oh yes they could be

Not sure which CFL team is going to be that interested in giving up much to get Kelly in a trade - and given the uncertain nature of his chance to recover from that injury and be his old CFL self ? Only maybe I could see is Ottawa if Diwiddie really wants him; other than that - which other CFL team is going to have serious interest ?

Dinwiddie has referred to Kelly as a franchise QB, so I think he would be interested in trading for Kelly. However, I can't think of anything that Ottawa could offer in exchange for a "franchise QB" But stranger things have happened. Hopefully not this time.

Wait, what? The only team (s) that wouldn't want Kelly as their QB1 would be BC and maybe (?) Montreal. That's it.

Trevor Harris is 39
Zach Collaros looks almost done
Is Bo retiring?
I guess VA is good?
Tre Ford... come on
Dru Brown? ok.....

I agree, if Kelly projected fully healed your post is 100% spot on.
The Argos would also be idiotic in trading Kelly at this point and would only accomplish providing another team with a top fight QB while leaving themselves vulnerable at that position.

The Argos don't need to be helping a division rival any further either. If they were going to move on from Kelly, it would have happened in early 2024. They haven't gone through everything that they have gone through with Kelly and then suddenly decide to dump him now.

I’m sure Ottawa’s new HC would welcome Chad to the REDBLACKS with open arms.
I agree, the Argos have been patient in getting Kelly healthy, no time to bail now.

SO, the Riders, Bombers & Ticats are going to ditch vet QBs (who all led winning teams last season) if they still want to play AND give up lots in a trade to acquire - Kelly coming off a broken leg where he didn't play at all last season ? Sorry, don't think so - we're not talking acquiring Doug Flutie here. Sure - if all 3 of Harris, Collaros & Bo announce they are packing it in, then maybe one of those teams might inquire.
