A new assistant coach?

Post by ArgoRavi »

Looking at his Twitter handle, will he be coaching the offensive line?

Interesting Ravi, looks like Miller will be adding some new blood from outside the CFL to the Argo coaching staff.
Should be interesting to see the entire staff he assembles.

I think there's been some misconception online that the Argos hired a high school coach and that he's never coached above that level, which isn't true.

17 years college experience, no professional. Not that different than current Argos line coach Chris Sweet, who people speak highly of. He had 10 years of college before coming to the CFL. O-line is one of the easier transitions I would say. Hashmarks reduce the wide field and you just have to have the mindset you’re always facing nickel defences with the extra blitz man. Yard off the ball is more player adjustment. Techniques and schemes are practically the same.

It’s fashionable to dump on anything the Argos do. 3rd Down with the clickbait “High School Coach” headline didn’t help things.

Which means he's not a GOB, right?

Agree on all counts.
Much less adjustment for positional coaches as the fundamentals of football on either side of the border are basically the same.
Different story for coordinators who need to be much more aware of the different nuances of the Canadian game.
Passport of the new coach completely irrelevant IMO.

No not yet; he may well be trained to be one though; not sure what his position would be, but a young asst. coach is not going to be able to challenge or do anything about established GOBs in charge of the team.

I guess experience in Canadian ball is irrelevant anyways, and besides there are just no experienced, successful Canadian ball coaches out there for the Argos to hire anyhow. Might be some recently retired American players who want to get into coaching though.
