Argos get decent CFLPA report card results with one notable exception

Argos rank 4th overall but the coaching staff earned a grade of D+. Perhaps Dinwiddie started losing the room and I suspect that the defensive coaches, in particular, did not have the confidence of the players. I am certainly taken aback by that low grade.

This is the coaching staff that led them to a Grey Cup less than a year before. Good thing RD got the dual role in Bytown. He was starting to lose the room at D+, or had already lost it. Did not like how he was calling players out. Once in a blue moon maybe, but he did it on more than one occasion in 2025.ArgoRavi wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 4:45 pm https://3downnation.com/2026/01/07/edmo ... port-card/

The Argos fared well in therapy & medical staff, strength & conditioning, team travel and were decent in nutrition & diet, training camp and treatment of families. Mind you in nutrition & diet and treatment of families no other team got a materially higher grade.
Where the problem lies is a D+ in coaching staff, hopefully that will improve now that the coaching staff is different. Same with the C+ in football ops, hopefully Murphy was the problem there. Not much we can do about ownership and practice facilities are, as we know, a perpetual problem.

These grades confirm what many suspected, the football ops department was basically one guy (John Murphy) who seemed to rub many in the organization (including the players) the wrong way, migration of champion quality players with largely inadequate replacements didn’t help either. Will wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 5:48 pm The Argos fared well in therapy & medical staff, strength & conditioning, team travel and were decent in nutrition & diet, training camp and treatment of families. Ryan Dinwiddie and the coaching staff did a mediocre job (at best) this past season and I suspect had lost the room, time for him to move on.
TBH this grading confirms my optimism that the changes within the organization are a positive step in righting the ship and getting things back on track.

The changes in the coaching staff between 2024 and 2025 were on the defensive side of the ball. Greg Marshall replaced Demetrious Maxie and Will Fields was replaced by Jason Shivers. Myron Lewis was not replaced as DBs coach. Along with Dinwiddie losing his cool a few times, I think that explains the poor grade earned by the coaching staff.Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 5:34 pmThis is the coaching staff that led them to a Grey Cup less than a year before. IF either of Marshall or Shivers are retained, I will already have lost confidence in new HC Miller
Re: Argos get decent CFLPA report card results with one notable exception
There have already been reports that neither Shivers nor Eiben will be retained and I would be shocked if Marshall is back.OV Argo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:16 pmArgoRavi wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 9:10 pmThe changes in the coaching staff between 2024 and 2025 were on the defensive side of the ball. Re: Argos get decent CFLPA report card results with one notable exception
A head coach that publicly berates players is bound to loose the confidence of his players. The rating of coaching staff was the lowest of all teams. Perhaps Dinwiddie moving on is a good thing for the team.
Re: Argos get decent CFLPA report card results with one notable exception
Dinwiddie’s a great football mind, but he’s clearly got shortcomings in the people skills department. He’s a very intense guy and he ended up rubbing players as well as management the wrong way. That’s why nobody seemed too heartbroken when he left.

Pretty well summed up Rich.
