Football operations

Post by paulwoods13 »

Since it seems all teams now have their coaching staffs settled, I thought it might be interesting to compare football ops for the four eastern teams. Here's what the web shows:

Montreal: 11 in football ops (including two video coordinators) and 8 coaches (Byron Archambault overlaps into football ops); total 19
Ottawa: 9 in football ops and 9 coaches; total 18
Hamilton: 8 in football ops and 11 coaches; total 19
Toronto: 4 in football ops and 11 coaches; total 15 including Pinball, whose hands-on role in football appears to be limited

The two new hires that Barker talked about recently who are starting this month are not yet listed on the website. They would bring the total number up to 17. Also, Marcus Grandison should be included in football ops, which would bring the number to 18.

I now see that Marcus G and Jon Magri are listed separately, below football ops and coaches, under "video." Those two would bring the total to 17. Who knows if the two guys Barker referred to are employees or unpaid interns, or if their names will ever surface, but bringing in more new blood would obviously be a good thing, especially if they work out as well as some past newbies did.

I also note that Usama Mujtaba has left the Argos and is now head sport scientist and assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Long Island Nets of the G League. He was a (mostly) under-the-radar but very important part of the club's success from 2021 through 2024.

By adding Bob Dyce as STC, Hamilton now has eight in football ops, 11 coaches and two video staff, total of 21.

Good for them.
Interesting that Milanovich has turned the offence over to Jarryd Baines.

Will that help them break their 26-year Grey Cup drought?

A good article here by Mike Hogan: https://www.argonauts.ca/2026/01/23/hog ... r-rebuild/

We now know who the newcomers are to football ops.

Nice, some clarity as to the plan and who will be executing the plan.
With Barker, Hufnagel and the Pinball involved they are in good hands!

It’s everything one would want in a front office. Maybe the “sky-is-falling” folks can take a deep breath now. I heard on a podcast tha Hufnagel’s salary as special advisor will not count against the cap, maybe they can do the same with Pinball and free up even more ops money.
