My concern is they have not replaced some of the key people responsible for the depth of talent the Argos have had for years now. John Murphy is going to need help.
We won’t know if this is true until we get stronger QB play.
On the field, yes Angelo I agree. And IMO this year they are still elite with Chad Kelly at QB. Let's hope his playoff problems are behind him.
I was thinking in terms of front office player personnel dept.
Was there a single time in 2022 or 2023 when the team let a capable veteran go in order to keep a cheaper rookie? Maybe there was and I've forgotten, but to me it seems the org is operating under a MUCH tighter internal budget this year.

Or maybe they weren’t as high on any of their rookies the last 2 years whereas they can replace a veteran starter.

Sure, but a team that kept two $150k guys inactive for a full season wouldn't have found it necessary to cut a useful veteran like Bailey just to save 20 or 30k. And he's just one of the departures that might have been triggered by a need for cost savings.

For all we know Bailey may not have even made the team if Ungerer and Mital were healthy for game 1. The fact that they waited until after the last practice of the week tells me that they wanted to make sure those 2 were good to go. I don’t see this as a cost savings move.
The book on Bailey was he was a real good blocker; and he was a fairly solid receiver, just nothing special.
I hope Mital gets some looks - i think he has great potential; the return of both Brissett & Nield would be nice. Could easily start 3 Canuck receivers to go with Daniels & Coxie.
According to David Morassutti (Rogers Communications) Dinwiddie said the "Argos decision to release Rasheed Bailey had to do with the ratio and salary cap. They loved what Bailey brought to the team and it was a hard conversation to let him go."

By all accounts he is an excellent teammate. It was a numbers game, and when you are that deep at Canadian receiver, it’s a relatively easy decision. Polk is locked up for at least 1 more year at likely minimum salary, and he looks really good. Can’t wait to see him play with Kelly.
The team has released backup Canadian (National) DE Daniel Joseph after a short stint with the team. This leaves Robbie Smith and Rookie Tyson Hergott as the lone Canadian (National) DEs on the roster.

With the release of Joseph, you wonder if the Argos have heard something about Luiji Vilain's status with Carolina. He is fourth in the OLB depth chart with the Panthers so maybe the Argos could think he could shake loose and join the team in September.
