Home Opener

Post by IssuesMcgee »

I normally argue that advertising alone won't fix the Argos attendance woes.

However, if the team does well out of the gate, ownership should go hard on advertising the Home Opener. They have an extra few months to prepare for it. The script writes itself as the road warriors will finally return home after what should be referred to as a revenge tour.

There is no reason not to make a big deal out of it.

100% accurate. However, you are assuming that someone at MLSE actually gives a damn. I pray I am proven dead wrong.

No argument here on what should be done ideally, but that is a very big "if." Seven straight road games is a massive challenge, especially for a team that went 5-13, lost a couple of key guys, didn't sign many "name" free agents and has a lot of new coaches.

The more I think about it, the more moronic this schedule seems. The last World Cup match in Toronto is July 2. I believe that the designated home games against the Bombers and Ticats are July 10 and July 18 respectively. Is an 8 day turnaround to football too much or what is the reason behind the moving of the games to the other cities. I heard that FIFA has requested the use of BMO Field until the end of the competition July 19 but for what reason I do not know.

Why doesn`t the league schedule the Argos vs Bombers for BMO on September 25 or 26 since TFC is out of town that weekend? Or do Rogers want the extra revenue for having their ``home`` game in Winnipeg? When you look at the BC Lions, they have a home game on July 4 but are hosting their final World Cup game on July 7. These facts makes the Argos scheduling seem more dubious.

Reminds me of 2015 when Rogers suddenly forgot how to convert the dome from baseball to football during the Blue Jays' ill-fated playoff run.

You answered your own question. All three games will likely yield the Argos more revenue (and less expense) than if they were played at home.

B.C.'s July 4 "home" game is being played in Kelowna.

I’ve been told the Tiger-Cats actually purchased the rights to the Argo “home game” in Hamilton from the Argonauts which I’m sure worked in MLSE’s favour financially which as we all know is all that matters to them.

I'm still amazed at how accepting Argo fans have been of this terrible scheduling decision. Can you imagine how Hamilton fans would be reacting if it were happening to their team!

Nothing can be done about it so no sense getting all bent out of shape.

If there is a way to stop this schedule, let me know. Otherwise, might as well adapt.

I'm looking forward to having friends over for a game and firing up the grill.
