2026 roster/cuts

Post by paulwoods13 »

This seemed like it was worth its own thread.

The cuts are in, and there are some surprises. The ones I find most surprising are in bold:

LB Aaron Casey
DB Akili Arnold
WR Andre Miller
QB Anthony Guercio
OL Anthony Vandal
LS Christopher Liberta
OL Cole DeMagistris
WR Dimitri Stanley
DB Ed Woods
OL Frank Vreugdenhil
DL Greg Reaves
LB Jalen Rayam
OL John Bosse
LB Jordan Pollard
RB Jyran Mitchell
OL Marcus Harper II
WR Marcus Rogers
K Nathan Walker
RB Peyton Logan
OL Philip Wilder
DL Quincy Robinson
WR Quincy Skinner Jr.
WR SeVonne Rhea
WR Tyriq Quayson
DB Tyshon Blackburn
OL Victor Olaniran
DB Vincent Gray

Added to PR:
DB Alex Teubner
OL Anim Dankwah*
DB Anthony Wilson
DL Denzel Daxon
LB James Neal
DL Jason Compoh
K/P Reed Martin*
OL Rush Reimer
WR Soloman Davis
DB Theran Johnson
WR Tristan Ready*
WR Tyler Kahmann
RB Weagbe Mombo*

Total of 48 on "active," so three will go on IR. Perhaps Smith and a couple of DBs.

The Argos have a hill to climb with first 7 games on the road, BUT I would NOT sleep on this team. They will be a problem for teams. Stay healthy boys and ruin a teams Grey Cup party like only the Toronto Argonauts can.
Let the season begin!

Very thin on the o-line, with just six active and the only backup a rookie.

Does LB Aaron Casey end up in Hamilton to replace the injured McManus?

None of the players who played OL on Friday looked like they had earned a spot based on their play. They may need to look at other team's cuts.

Letting Casey walk may be a move the Argonauts regret moving forward.

I agree, and I do indeed see him ending up in Hamilton. He's a good player with high potential. I would probably have kept him over one of the extra INT DBs, but maybe there are some health issues back there.

I've been down on Bosse and Vandal for most of the past year, so I'm not super surprised about their departures altho I would have figured on Vandal sticking around at least until Vreugdenil or Olaniran was ready. But since those two aren't even on the practice roster, I guess they're not going to be developed, either. There is no doubt IMO that the team needs to find a useable NAT backup, stat.
