Their sideline reporters do not have a mandate to stay on top of things, it seems. And it would be pretty tough for s single reporter to know what's going on with two teams anyway. Watching Claire Hanna on Friday night, she spent most of the game at a desk at midfield, not closely scrutinizing either club. Tonight I saw her around the Argo bench at the end of each half when she was prepping to interview someone. The classic missed moment was the 2022 Grey Cup when TSN had absolutely no idea Toronto's starting QB was on the sideline frantically trying to repair a major injury.
Sadly, the days of Bill Stephenson, Tom McKee, and Al McCann are long gone. Stephenson used to annoy Pat Marsden at times with how often he would chime in with important information.
I think that has more to do with teams not revealing anything than it does the networks not wanting to get the info. We’re living in the days of upper and lower body injuries now. No specifics.
Teams can want anything, but as the league's biggest single revenue producer, TSN could insist on more sideline reporting of it wanted it. Clearly it does not want it. No one's saying they should say what part of the player's body was being treated, but it would give nothing away to say "Williams has gone to the locker room" or "Williams has come out for the second half in street clothes." But that would require attentiveness and a desire to keep viewers fully informed about key developments affecting the game.

Interesting to note that the Ticats "killed" the Alouettes despite just 49 yards rushing (on 15 carries) by Augustine. Not exactly an effective ground game.

42 pass attempts by the usual stuff MBT to 4 run plays to their RBs; and they lost by 17 points to a $hitty Ticats team; yep, that was the right offensive strategy alright.

And CFL O-lines (both teams last night- just brutal in pass pro) get manhandled all the time when the offence goes 70 % plus pass; but hey, stick with what you know - a run game is just an afterthought or "tendency breaker" and O-line just hate firing off to be physical; OMG the run got stopped twice for a short gain = time to abandon ship .

Most times the Argos ran the ball, they ended up 2nd and long which is deadly in this league today. Twice, they failed on 2nd and 2 situations running the ball. At a certain point, you can’t keep relying on a run game that just isn't working. They have to figure it out moving forward; I don't think any of us would disagree about that.

Agreed, imagine staying with the run game when the O-line hasn’t shown the ability to run block all season.
Once the Argos get their run blocking straightened out and start to stretch the field more with some long passes (with Kelly at the helm) things should improve.

Staying with the running game was a lot easier in the old days when there were far more low scoring games. You often still had a chance to win even if the run wasn't working and you were forced to punt a lot. They also didn't have to worry much about punt returns pre-1976 when blocking was illegal.

Also staying with the run game was easier until the forward pass was invented.

We really shouldn't be questioning here anything CFL offensive "brain-trusts" do these days = they are all inscrutable football geniuses; I'm surprised most games aren't 76 to 68 type shoot-outs. ;)

Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 8:22 am With Chop Villiams down, and McMahon they're playing Brown. The run game is non existent. It is tough they let Carey go. And he's not getting time with Saskatchewan. Anyone down for trading to get him back? He fit in perfectly here with what the Argos do offensively. Are those younger guys we kept better than him? I think they made the wrong choice here. Eventually he will need to be replaced, but you have to know what you've got is better. And these guys are not that.
It really has little to do with the RB’s. The o-line run blocking has been dreadful.
I agree. Dylan Giffen is known as an excellent run blocker. Whenever he is healthy enough, I wonder if he gets into the starting lineup, perhaps at the expense of Vandal who hasn't seemed quite as good this year.
I hope that Giffen can get healthy soon as he would bring much more size inside than Vandal does. It is funny that the Argos have been a very effective inside running team for the past few seasons but has lost that this season. Maybe when Kelly gets back into the lineup and brings that scrambling threat then the inside of defenses start to loosen up which should help the inside run game.

I'm surprised you still watch a game that you hate based on your posting history.
