And that's the fault of U Sports football and nothing to do with the all-american wannabes who decide what gets on sports TV up here ? Please.

I can watch tons of US college ball up here and next to no U Sports football - cause the dorks who make those decisions just go with cheapest / easiest to broadcast; has zero to do with the quality of the product and everything to do with bottom-line and all-american hype sucking combined with an appalling lack of respect for the historic Canadian sport of gridiron football.

Maybe if the CFL starting pushing the big picture of Canadian football a lot more, that might help others get the picture and realize what a fine football product U Sports (or Junior ball), along with their own product, has to offer as an option for football and other sports fans ? But instead, the CFL prefers to be a league run by Americans / for Americans (see roster decisions/rules and coaching make-up). So instead we produce NFL fan-boys looking down their noses at Canadian football and they think the CFL is a dinky / 2nd rate product. No wonder other Canadian football lives in the shadows while all sorts of other entertainment (i.e. American pulp culture) gets lapped up by the sheep up here. The "Major League" media bottom-line weasels will gladly ignore Canadian football and the CFL brainiacs feel fortunate that at least TSN shows their games for paltry dollar returns. Is what it is. Some of us can still appreciate, support and find ways to watch real Canadian football though. And the Province of Quebec shows way more respect / support for Canadian football than most of the rest of the map up here - seen in U Sports attendance (Laval sometimes outdraws the feeble Argo "crowds") plus a game of the week is available on TV there.
I said a CANADIAN women's pro soccer league run by CANADIANS is getting exposure (20 games on TSN) in its very first year of operation. The CANADIAN people running the league went out in the CANADIAN marketplace and successfully pitched their CANADIAN product. What do American wannabees have to do with this, and why can't the people running U Sports get out of their plush chairs and do the same?

The CFL has no obligation to promote U Sports. The NFL doesn't promote college football down south. It promotes itself, very successfully.

Quebec football's rise was the result of a grassroots movement, not U Sports. Laval is also privately funded and is able to hire a full-time coaching staff. Most other U Sports schools have limited full-time positions (head coach, coordinators, maybe 1-2 more). The funding just isn't there mainly because U Sports is terrible at selling itself.

Isn't Laval guilty of being an American wannabe for running camps south of the border?

Soccer is an historic international sport played all over the world.

Canadian football is an only in Canada sport - invented and developed here - for a hundred plus years.

THAT is THE big difference as to why some bean-counter TV executive would be willing & eager to broadcast soccer over Canadian football in our own country. ZERO to do with interest or quality or anything like that. The only in Canada part is huge turn-off to wannabes and "Major League" hype $uckers, who get to control much of the media decisions up here.

American college football has zero need for the NFL to help it (but the constant connection of players from college to the pros there is huge) - American college ball is all over the TV and media down there. In Canada, our younger football gets ignored, dis-respected or mocked by our all-american media wannabes.

No, the CFL has no obligation to promote or nurture other levels of Canadian football. It can go on being an Americans first / Americans preferred football league; and that sure has helped them grow the game in Canada over the past few decades, right ? Quebec football is huge because they have pride and interest in their own teams and players, and you can watch amateur football on their sports TV. Quebec City would be very doubtful (IMO) to support a typical, same-old Americans first CFL team in their town; a CFL team there staffed/coached by mostly Canadians and with a roster of 50% plus Canadian players and maybe featuring a local U Sports star QB starting for them, would blow away Argos attendance, hands down, no contest, and in a demographic of a fraction the size to work with.

Other than kids playing the game, soccer has been a nothing sport in Canada forever. Many leagues have been tried and folded. U Sports had many decades head start on all other sports, did nothing with the time, and just got schooled by a startup women's soccer league.

Bean-counting TV execs sell ad space, not programming. Producers are the ones who go to TV execs trying to sell programming. U Sports would be out selling itself if it saw itself as a content creator. But it clearly doesn't.

The CFL is far from perfect but it actually has grown in recent years. After enduring 20+ years of gross mismanagement starting in the mid-80s (lost three teams, almost lost two more), it slowly recovered, sold itself to TSN to form a new partnership,, and is now a stable enterprise. Yet the CFL is like an evil villain for you while U Sports is an angel. I don't get it.

As for a CFL team in Quebec City, I'm all for it. Laval's financial backers don't seem to feel the same way.

At least U Sports football has added some teams over the past decades: Regina, Sherbrooke, the now powerhouse Montreal Carabins. In spite of so little support or coverage or recognition by the wannabes who run our media (and yes - the typical sports "producer" up here is the type of hype $ucking, all-american hero worshipping wannabe I'm talking about).

Meanwhile, the clowns who run the CFL have been stuck on 9 teams (even down to 8 at times), ... forever. It's a gang of clowns with no vision for growing or improving their league, and promoting and marketing CANADIAN football as part of a big picture that benefits all partners. A bunch of rich guys who want their own little personal football fiefdoms with no clue how to grow the game. Maybe Doman & PKP in Montreal can affect some change down the road, but I won't hold my breath.

The people who run USports have done a horrible job selling their sports, including football. The deal they made with Rogers years ago set them back decades.

U Sports has consisted of 23-27 schools since the CIAU days of the 70s, and has been playing 8 game schedules since the 80s. That's the definition of no growth. Montreal's funding model is similar to Laval's. Regina's football funding is separate from the university. Sherbrooke has private funding; not sure if it's 100%.

CFL is run by clowns, it has become way too Americanized, you won't hold your breath, but you still watch it and post here. I don't get the logic.

Yes - the CFL is, mostly, run by, some, Americans first clowns - that's just IMO - and they are the ultimate definition of zero growth in pro sports these days. But they have moved to increase American content on CFL rosters, if that's your definition of progress for Canadian ball ?

Do you even watch or attend any U Sports football? Or is the CFL just your only Canadian football way? I watch both the CFL (pretty well every game / every season) and whatever U Sports football I can. Maybe cause I love Canadian football; but I don't believe either level of Canadian football is perfect and can't be improved on, nor is above criticism.

We have heard this kind of comment before but it's worth highlighting again:

Teen on the scene: Bombers QB intern Cole Anseeuw a sponge at main camp: “The playbook is 10 times the size of the Bisons,” Anseeuw said with a laugh.

Jason Maas gives local QB Jon Senecal at least a bit of playing time in the ex. game ending, in front of hometown fans.

Senecal went just 1 for 5 (but with 2 clear drops in the rainy conditions), and also ran 12 yards for a 1st down.

I hope Senecal gets some meaningful reps tonight. I will be watching. Hope he makes at least the practice roster.
IMO, playing time in ex. games is often a good indicator of real interest in a player. Argos raw rookie QB (to Canadian ball) Tucker Horn was given basically a full half the first ex. game. You almost never see a U Sports QB who is getting a supposed real CFL try-out get more than a series or two late in an ex. game. Way she goes. Senecal's only hope is if 2 of the Als QBs get serious injuries, and they can't find anybody else (read any American QBs) as replacements.
