So predictable - what a F-ing joke; the clowns at OSEG have zero clue about Canadian football. So sad what is happening to Ottawa football.
Who would you suggested they hire instead?
Denis Piche; James Ellingson, Brad Sinopoli ...
Anybody with some football experience can read the NFL transactions wire or NFL draft preview guides, and mine some of dozens of potential contacts down there for finding players from the US. Having a Canadian football AND Ottawa football guy with some proper say would be my preference over a recycled CFL GOB, but that's just me.
I don't know who Denis Piche is and the other two have never expressed any interest in football management. Popp has a tonne of contacts in football on both sides of the border and those contacts are critical.

Not at all surprised you don't know who Piche is (former U Sports player, coached with the GGs for years at various levels, including on a Vanier winning team and later as HC with a winning record; stayed in Ottawa - has done French radio commentary for RedBlacks games; back to GGs as a recruiting guy)
Ellingson has done RedBlacks radio for years now; not sure of his level of interest, but heard a post game show caller say his name (last year maybe) for a key RedBlacks job and not like Ellingson replied: "no interest by me".
You're saying Popp has all these superior US ball connections that no other guy has ?; again- what, they can't read NFL transaction wire moves or follow NFL draft scouting reports ? Lots of people have extensive football contacts.

That matches the 1981 Argos. Hopefully they don't do to the Argos what the Argos did to Calgary in 1981.

Capping off a disastrous week for the East.
I don't think Maier is even their biggest problem. The defence and o-line are really poor.

Maier isn't their biggest problem but he's not a QB who can elevate his team. That's become quite apparent when you look at his career.

I do feel sorry for the players and fans.
Not so much Ryan Dinwiddie, but the players and fans aren't responsible for him.

No matter who Dinwid chose for QB this season - between Maier, Dru Brown or even if MBT was in camp - he was euchred with the worst QB in the league = none of those 3 are near all other teams' vet starters. Combined with typical CFL offensive thinking of no use for a run game AND a weak as usual defence (they did add some talent via free agency, but not in the right spots really - particularly secondary), and it's little surprise they are winless.
Going forward with a no wins HC is one thing (he should be fired IMO), but what about QB going forward - does anybody really think Maier is going to put it together to be a top CFL starter ? = of course he isn't. SO - why in hell keep playing the guy, and not instead, play that young 3rd stringer AND bring in at least 2 more young QBs and give them playing time as well - - do some real evaluating of the position for the future ??? Makes zero sense. They are in big trouble there with no hope in sight.

They should be starting the third stringer. 100%. What are they waiting for? Maier is a backup only, he has no athleticism, no arm. They need to be looking at next year starting 3 games ago. I liked Dinwiddie, but I am really starting to question what he's doing with his team.

I feel the same, the Ottawa fans deserve much better.
Dinwiddie comes off like an arrogant jackass, no hesitation to blame others and throw them under the bus when he is the main problem.
His ego got the best of him, a large dose of humility is exactly what he needs.

And the stupid operations cap means the RedBlacks are stuck with him. It was a dumb move to give him a duo (trio?) role. He is a very good head coach but that doesn’t always relate to personnel choices. John Hodge last week said that the league should at the very least exclude all fired personnel from the Ops cap. I agree totally. Players salaries don’t count against the cap when they are cut (or hidden on some list). Why should coaches/management that are fired count?
