I was happy to see Miller gamble there, even though the play got messed up. The last guy was way too conservative in those situations IMO. Sometimes you gotta roll the dice and show some faith in your players.
IMO coaches should gamble way more than they do. Short field goals get you three points (hooray), but also let the other team take possession on the 40. IMO there are times when you'd be better off taking zero points (if the gamble fails) and leaving the opponent to start on its own 10 or thereabouts. We kicked two very short FGs this past game, which was too Dinwiddie-like for my taste.
And because they didn't make it in the 2nd quarter, Miller was a little snakebitten when faced with a similar situation in the 3rd quarter.

I wouldn’t be so quick to blame the play calling on the picks. Every play has options. My opinion was that with the yards being racked up as easily as they were, Kelly got greedy, perhaps looking for a record day in both yards and TD’s. In the end it didn’t cost them, and I don’t expect to see that again.
I believe this is exactly what happened.

What is the football record held by Matt Dunigan? Over 800 yards I believe in one game. Kelly and the Argos have the capability to hit that.

713 yards. I don't think anyone is going to break that record.

I don't think that record or Mookie Mitchell's 160 catches in a season will ever be broken. The latter happened in 1998 and I don't think we ever truly appreciated it then.

It requires some kind of perfect storm. I think Dunigan and the Bombers had some kind of revenge factor in play from the previous season against Edmonton.
Kellys stat line in these first 2 games should be significantly higher without interceptions, dropped and timing throws being off. He could have had over 500 yards in these games. As the timing improves, Kelly's "rust" buffs out, play calling improves and they play some home games the capability of this offence can improve.
Let's just say at Halftime Kelly in some future game has thrown for 400 plus yards. Would you let your QB go for the history books?

Yes absolutely. If your QB is on fire at the start of the season, let him rip.

If the win is secure, sure, go for the record. But winning is any coach's first priority. Even though the Argos rolled up an 18-point lead on Ott and Kelly was on fire, those picks he threw allowed the RBs back into the game for a while. A better opponent might have made the Argos pay. You know what they say in this league, no lead is safe. I stick to my belief that the 713-yard threshold won't be broken in my lifetime, by Kelly or anyone else. Heck, even 600 has been exceeded only twice in all the years Cdn football has been played.

In the Ticats win last game vs, BC, Bo threw just 18 passes for just 285 yards, but for 5 TDs with zero picks. And the Ticats run game did little. I'll take the big chunk plays, with zero INTs (or fumbles) over 500 plus passing yards but with turnovers that let the opposition stay in the game.
Kelly looks like he is back to his big passing arm form that can put up big numbers, but IMO the offence needs to be smarter rather than relying on Chad going bombs away. This would include way more run game to the 2 impressive new RBs; some screen passes, and some Kelly roll-outs with run options or plain designed QB run plays - and standing in the pocket all game when the D knows that's all you have is more likely to get a QB hurt on a big hit that he doesn't see coming over a QB run play.
