Mike Hogan finds an interesting stat about Dick Shatto

Some of you may have seen this on Twitter already, but if you haven't, I'll share it here:

An interesting historical #Argos find that changes 2 club milestones. In researching the record book for some upcoming changes to the website, I found that there was a discrepancy between the career rushing stats of Dick Shatto listed in the team record book & the league guide.

The CFL had him at 7,007 yards on 1,316 carries, the team had him at 6,958 on 1,322. I reached out to CFL stat guru Jeff Krever for help. He & cohort Steve Daniel did some digging & revealed that for 1 year in 1958 the IRFU method was used, which deducted team losses from rushing. totals, so some players' rushing totals were corrected in 2011. For Shatto, it meant that 6 individual carries were subtracted because they were ruled team losses, while it also meant 49 yards lost were put back on his total. In short, in 1958 Shatto officially rushed 148 times for 1,018 yards, not the original total of 969. Therefore, Shatto became the team's first 1,000-yard rusher in 1958, a decade earlier than Bill Symons hit that milestone and for years had been recognized as being the first Argo to hit 1,000 yards. It also meant that Shatto eclipsed the 7,000-yard mark for his career, finishing with 7,007, the updated Argo team record. I have no idea how the league and team record books weren't synched, but now they are, and the legendary Dick Shatto's accomplishment can be rightfully added as an Argo first.
