September 27, 1981 - Calgary Stampeders at Toronto Argonauts - this was the first Argos win of the 1981 season.

July 8, 1982 - Calgary Stampeders at Toronto Argonauts - season opener

Please note that these are only highlights. The full games are, unfortunately, likely lost to time.

The 1981 game was a CBC one so is likely in their archives although how to access those is an open question.

The 1982 game was shown on CTV but only in Calgary, as I recall. I keep hoping that someone somewhere has that game but chances aren't great.

My experience with the CBC archive is that there seems to be a lot less in there than you might expect. And it's basically impossible for anyone to navigate it and find what you are looking for. Documentary film-makers might be able to, but for us regular folks, good luck.

I know I shared this with you Paul, but for Ravi's benefit, I had inquired with the CBC archives several years ago about the Argos at Ticats game from 1983, which I believe aired on CBC. I had to reach out through some sort of portal, and I only got a response after many months saying that they could only provide the game to someone who actually played in it or a relative. What I didn't ask and the response didn't clarify was whether the game actually exists in their archives.

I know you had inquired about about another game, where it turned out the game didn't exist at all in their archives despite some initial indication that it did.

I understand that the costs of VCRs and VHS tapes were prohibitive back then.

I bought my first VCR (of many) in March 1983 for $749. That's $2,132 in today's dollars. VCR prices went way down very quickly, as demand rose. Unfortunately a big part of this reduction was that bells and whistles were removed. The JVC VCR I bought in 1986 was far, far better than one I bought 10 years later, with loads of cool features. Videotape quality also went waaaaayyy down over time. I have tapes I recorded in 1986 that still play fantastically well; tapes from the 1990s are often pieces of junk, quality- and workmanship-wise. The 1980s ones are noticeably heavier.

I can't remember how much tapes cost when I started recording but I think it was about five bucks. It wasn't long before you could get a box of 10 for 20 bucks, sometimes even less. I bought a lot of boxes, many of them at Honest Ed's.

I wasn’t aware that there was any highlights from the dismal 1981 season.

How can you not call Dan Manucci a hi-light?

They were horrible that season but I enjoyed going to those games with my high school friends

Fortunately, not many full Argo games have, to my knowledge, survived from that season except for a debacle at Winnipeg Stadium.
