It's time to do to Calgary in the second half what they did to the Argos last week. Make the adjustments and go to work. Let's roll!
Make Clemons President!!!

Why? Defense has not been the problem with the 2024 Argos.

I've never seen DBs getting thrown around so badly by a group of recievers.

Meh, the other team get paid to play too. D played great, don’t know what you’re looking for. Once Kelly comes back, this team should be in great shape.Deez_Dreams wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 10:15 pm I've never seen DBs getting thrown around so badly by a group of recievers.

With Kelly ( I still don't trust Randy to allow him back next game) back for the final 9 games, it's not imcomprencable for this team to go 7-2 down the stretch.ArgoZ wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 10:41 pmMeh, the other team get paid to play too. Who I liked: Nick Arbuckle, Makai Polk, Benji Franklin, Robert Priester, Janarion Grant, 2nd half Folarin Orimolade, 2nd half Kadeem Carey.
Who I didn't like: Mason Pearce, Kevin Mital, Fraser Sopik, Damonte Coxie, D-line, 1st half Oline, 1st half Kadeem Carey, Puny DBs.
Things were NOT looking good in the first half. I didn't think the Dline was getting anywhere near Maier for most of the game. DBs couldn't maintain coverage when Maier has all day back there. Speaking of the DBs, they looked like children out there against those receivers, especially in the first half. Runs and jet sweeps were turning into huge gains because our DBs were blocked so completely. Scary if more teams figure out how to do that.
Happy for Arbuckle. I always liked him. Did he shoot the lights out? No. But it was his first start with the team, he made good decisions, he got rid of it when it wasn't there, and he wasn't afraid to throw the ball. Especially in the first half, it didn't look like he was getting much help from the Oline, Carey, or his receivers.
Glad for the second-half adjustments. Mital's gotta clean up that special teams play. Glad for the win! 5-4 without Chad Kelly's not bad.

Oh yes it has: 373 passing yards for the Stumps tonight vs. 181 for the Argos; this secondary has real problems in coverage and tacking (both Pierce & Franklin are lightweights who get run over); DT without Brinkman is hardly strong either; and McManis is missed big-time when he is not in there. Gotta agree that Mace was maybe the better D architect, but with the secondary decimated by losses, hard to over-come; like to see Adeleke playing in there and maybe give Jamie Harry a shot too.gilthethrill wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:00 pmWhy? Big plays saved the day tonight: J. Grant (wowzers!); D. Amos with the pick 6 and Flo with the strip for a turn-over.
Some positives - O-line was pretty strong (Vandal seems like a decent upgrade over MacKellar and maybe Giffen will eventually take a starter spot); more run game with Carey getting more work plus at least a bit of an effort to mix in McMahon & Adeboboye (more of that please); Arbuckle was just Ok and at least did not make a bunch of dumb plays to give the ball away.

Its another one of those “well its a win so we’ll take it.”
I would like to know why the opposing team always seems to have players wide open in the middle of the field, and the Argos rarely seem to manage that. Is it play design or the receivers?
The Argos offence is last in the league in terms of penalty yardage they have accrued. I don’t know the total but the Argos had a lot of penalties on both sides of the ball this game. Why can’t they clean that up?
Its hard to look at the game as a whole without looking at individuals who have a couple of good plays and are mediocre to bad the rest of the game so I am not going to single anyone out. But how can your defensive line not be set on a goal line stand play?
Arbuckle did enough to help with the win and they probably wouldn’t have won without the Grant TD when he got it, but it really was the defence who stepped it up after that terrible Begelton tackle job. They could have just packed it in then, but credit to them, they played better after that.
I haven’t seen anything about a Kelly reinstatement yet.

Honestly, I am happy with where this team is at midway through the season. They have had a tonne of injuries and been without their starting QB from last year but have battled game in and game out.
I really don't think this defence is that bad at all; they may not be quite as good as last year's defence YET, but they're headed in the right direction IMO. Some of you are forgetting that the likes of Dustin Crum and Jake Maier lit up the Argos defence at BMO last year but the Argos offence managed to outscore them on those nights.
Special teams continue to be solid and the running game got stronger as the game progressed tonight. Arbuckle played decently and didn't cost the Argos the game which is about all you can ask at this point.
I feel confident that this team will have an even better second half and be a force come playoff time.
