Nice theory on paper; but CFL GMs have no "need" to draft these Canadian QBs, and will quite likely continue to write them off. Is what it is with the GOB network in place and as strong as ever.Scooter McCray wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 6:28 pm The Canadian QB talent pool in Canada & the US has never been deeper. CFL GMs need to draft these players and or sign them and bring them into camps next year. Diamonds will be found.
And I still believe the CFL should allow each team to remove one Canadian players salary off of the team cap.

Re: Canadian Quarterbacks in the 2025 CFL Draft
Having watched Elgersma yesterday, I am convinced that he will be drafted. He definitely has the arm strength and ability to lead a pro-style offense although he needs some developing at the pro level due to the speed of the game and reaction times of the defenders. As for Rourke, I think that he'll be drafted into the NFL so he may not show up for a two or three years at best in the CFL, if at all.
I'm not totally convinced by Desjardins even though he has pro arm strength. Another year at Laval would do him well.
I regard Senecal a bit higher than most. He really has a dynamism to his play and a quick release. If you gave him the skill players that Elgersma has, then IMO, he would really put up huge numbers too. I don't think any of his receivers are pro prospects.

Re: Canadian Quarterbacks in the 2025 CFL Draft
Wether any of these U Sports get a Combine invite, drafted or signed as a FA, it won't be for a real CFL look; it would be more as a PR stunt or as an extra arm for TC. Any bets on any of them making a CFL roster and getting any sort of playing time (like Cameron Dukes or Brian Scott have) in the next few years. ?
Elgersma is 6-6 with a very strong arm and looks to see and read very well; he is also playing with some notch top receivers and in a Michael Faulds coached offence.
Desjardins is 6-5, and also has a strong arm (one bad duck that got picked yesterday, but otherwise some excellent big-play throws) AND has above average QB mobility.
Senecal is smaller, but a real dual threat type, with an above average arm, but has played on a very strong team but without big-play, all-star type receivers or RBs to help him.
ALL 3 of these guys could easily make most CFL teams as a #3 right away or maybe #2 (and then with a bit of playing time, lotsa young QBs become the next big thing or shiny new object - see Nick Arbuckle or Dru Brown or Davis Alexander this season) - dozens and dozens of American QBs get these CFL opportunities. Canadian trained QBs need not apply (unless they could run a 4.4 forty and get drafted by a GOB who loves his "athletes").

Re: Canadian Quarterbacks in the 2025 CFL Draft
As others have indicated, it is highly unlikely Rourke will appear in the CFL for 2 or 3 years if ever. IMO the top two Canadian QBs who might get signed by a CFL team are Elgersma and Tachinski. Elgersma has a pro arm and pro accuracy. and has the size most teams look for. Tachinski is a genuine dual threat as both a passer and as a runner. He is 6'4" and 215 which could see him as a team's number 3 QB, who is utilized as a short yardage QB. In fact both of them have the size and mobility to be a short yardage QB. Elgersma might get drafted because of his pro ready passing talent and Tachinski might be drafted because of his ability to run the ball. I may be wrong but hopefully both will get a chance to show they can perform at the pro level.
Re: Canadian Quarterbacks in the 2025 CFL Draft
I had my first look at Elgersma today and, unfortunately, was underwhelmed by his performance. We shall see how this affects where he is drafted in the upcoming CFL draft.
Re: Canadian Quarterbacks in the 2025 CFL Draft
Probably not much. Laval almost got to him on most of the good plays he made. Laval QB had a cleaner pocket.

Re: Canadian Quarterbacks in the 2025 CFL Draft
CFL Scouting Bureau's #1 prospect for next draft - QB Kurtis Rourke - was way more underwhelming today against top competition in Ohio State; went 6 for 18 for 68 yards, sacked 5 times and fumbled. We shall see if that affects his CFL draft rankings.
Re: Canadian Quarterbacks in the 2025 CFL Draft
Both Canadian QBs fared poorly today. Rourke had a terrible game and this might hinder his chances of being drafted in the NFL. Elgersma suffered from weak support from his OL. It also demonstrated his lack of mobility when under pressure.
He did show arm strength and he may still be drafted in the CFL draft.
